Navy Captain Backs Able Danger Claims
Fox News ^ | August 23, 2005

WASHINGTON -- A second military officer has publicly backed claims by a military intelligence officer that a Pentagon unit named "Able Danger" (search) identified lead Sept. 11 hijacker Mohamed Atta (search) in early 2000 as a security risk.

Navy Capt. Scott Phillpott (search) told FOX News in a statement Monday evening that the lead hijacker in the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks was identified as someone with ties to known terrorists. Phillpott, a 22-year active duty serviceman, would not provide more detail, except to say that he is going through the proper channels at the Department of Defense.

I don't believe these two officers are lying, they would have too much to lose. The Pentagon, the gov't. and the 9/11 Commission are engaging in a massive cover-up, probably to protect Gorelick.

The only part about this entire story that I kinda question...is that they waited...and waited...and waited. It seems rather odd that they would wait this long, and now raise the flag. I'm willing to give them a open door...but they wait almost six months after the report was released to say this.

Another odd thing...this Able Danger group likely dragged up hundreds of individuals or tips...and how they seem to remember this one guy (Atta) and rattle off their statement is kind of amazing. They must have kept notes or something.

I was not near a TV, but heard some of it on radio. I remember thinking he didn't sound like his old self. Sorta like he was distracted. Jock itch?

And since we're already off topic, did anyone else catch the Fox White House correspondent on radio this morning? He sounded to me like he is bucking for a job with the MSM. He was asked about Able Danger and his explanation sounded like it came right out the Democratic talking points papers. Said the members of the 9/11 commission, on both sides of the aisle, were upstanding people who had no axe to grind or interests to protect. I finally had to change stations.

No, they are not "warning shots". They are military officers on military business, not political partisans.

The political partisans can use them as they can, but the officers are not making statements to pursue a political agenda. They are simply telling the truth.

The political Pentagon "spokesman" has no business to be challenging their veracity the way he is. The Administration knows these men are telling the truth. They do not have the right to challenge their veracity, therefore, when they know it is true. That they are doing it in their logrolling game makes them skunks.

It seems that all the radio talk shows, and most of the posts here on FR, want to focus on blaming Gorelick and Clinton and Reno. All people whom I think should be properly ashamed of themselves, but finding someone to blame is not going to bring back the lost souls of 9-11.

Identify REAL problems, and FIX them - that is the debt we owe the dead.

It seems that you may have missed the REAL problems in this situation. In a nutshell (emphasis on nut) the REAL problems are dishonest, incompetent, lying politicians who are willing to sacrifice their country’s security as well as other people’s lives, careers and honor in pursuit of their ambitions for acquisition of power at any cost.

In the case at hand, Gorelick and Clinton and Reno are exemplars extraordinaire of the species. However, you are correct “blame” in, and of, itself, is useless.

Blame is worthless except as it discredits and holds up for shame, thus discouraging (hopefully) any of similar ilk from trying the same types blindly ambitious shenanigans in the future. Far from blame, the proper FIX is vigorous prosecution and incarceration is the order of the day for these types of politicians.

As an alternative to the above cited, “proper” FIX, attaching public blame to the likes of Gorelick and Clinton and Reno may have the salutatory effect of dimming election hopes for similar types. However, such a salutatory effect will accrue only if the press honestly reports the facts and the people react with righteous indignation over criminal and treasonous behavior.

What kind of REAL problems beyond that which I have cited could possible exist?

They did NOT wait.

They briefed their chains of command. Military officers do not give press conferences. They do not enter into the political arena. They perform their duties. These men forwarded this information up the chain. Scott Philpot was briefly interviewed by the 9/11 Commission. The political classes who sit atop the military, and who sat in that Commission, were not interested in what Captain Philpot had to say, and they were not interested in what was reported up the chain of command either.

What happened here was that a young officer, the LCDR, got sick of the bullshit and the lies of the political classes, both parties, and seeing that the lie was going to become the official truth, he broke ranks and told the truth.

And rather than let him be hung out to dry, his superior, Capt. Philpot, unenthusiastically stepped forward - when the malignant politicians of BOTH parties (let's keep this straight here; the Republicans are in command and they have not stood by these officers but have made statements that undermine them) made it clear that the LCDR was going to be destroyed and the truth denied, and his commander said "No, he's telling the truth. That's what happened."

So, Captain Philpot and this LCDR both just ended their careers, because they told a truth that the Democrats and Republicans both want to supress and massage for their own reasons.

They deserve medals. Instead, the Republican establishment is going to cashier them. The buck stops with the men in charge. And the men in charge on September 11, 2001, and the men directing DiRita, are REPUBLICANS, not Democrats.

Philpot came forth because he wasn't going to let his junior officer be eaten alive for telling the truth. So now they are both going to be eaten alive by the bastards in the Democratic Party. But I am going to focus on the bastards in the REPUBLICAN party who, instead of standing by their officers, are playing the discrediting games.

How these officers are treated will tell you everything you need to know about the honesty of the Bush Administration. They are telling the complete truth, as far as they knew it. They have reported this, in due course of business, up the chain and been ignored. The Administration controls the mechanism that can protect these people. If they don't, if instead you see Captain Philpot twisting in the wind, you will know - if you are discerning enough to listen to the Truth and understand it when you are being it told it - that the Bush Administration are lying snakes no better than the Clintons.

This is the Bush Administration's Billy Dale moment. Billy Dale is Scott Philpott. Watch what happens to him. If Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld are honorable, Philpott will be praised and protected. If they are Clintonesque, Philpott will be called "in error", and hung out to dry.

To those who can see, this is the great test.

lets see. 22 years = pension. I dont blame them for waiting for their pension to come in.

Their impact is even greater this way watching gore-lick fall into the trap.

I've been waiting for Rush to comment on this new development ... however, he's busy obsessing about Cindy Sheehan. Rush give it up ... don't give her another minute of your time ... she ain't worth it.

Maybe the reason they waited is to build their case, gather their evidence, and make sure they had a sound case before they went public with this Able Danger story.

4th anniversary of Sept. 11 will probably be awash in MSM's studious ignore of AD, but, like the Swift Boat Vets sub-MSM tidal wave, AD will underscore the anniversary for more of us than are researching it now. I predict even Jim Lehrer mentions AD prior to Sept 11.

BTW--9/11/05 would be the perfect date to take out an add in the NY SLIMES to highlight ABLE DANGER'S account of things and remind the nation how Bill Clinton was engaged in more important activities.
