Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a soldier killed in Iraq whose August antiwar vigil in Crawford, Texas has captured the nation's attention as she camped out on the side of a road leading to President Bush's ranch demanding a meeting with him, called the foreign terrorists in Iraq (AKA al Qaeda in Iraq) 'freedom fighters' during her first meeting with reporters when she arrived in Crawford, August 6--remarks that when unreported until now.
Mrs. Sheehan also expressed sympathy for Iraqis who have used car bombs and suicide bombings to fight the American-led coalition forces in Iraq.
Video of her incendiary remarks were found on a link from the website of Veterans for Peace, one of the groups that accompanied Mrs. Sheehan to Crawford.
Surrounded by reporters with notepads, tape recorders and video cameras, Mrs. Sheehan spoke freely in response to a question by CBS News' Mark Knoller.
Mr. Knoller asked, "You know that the president says Iraq is the central front in the war on terrorism, don't you believe that?"
Mrs. Sheehan replied, "No, because it's not true. You know Iraq was no threat to the United States of America until we invaded. I mean they're not even a threat to the United States of America. Iraq was not involved in 9/11, Iraq was not a terrorist state. But now that we have decimated the country the borders are open, freedom fighters from other countries are going in and they (America) have created more terrorism by going to an Islamic country, devastating the country and killing innocent people in that country. The terrorism is growing and people who never thought of being car bombers or suicide bombers are now doing it because they want the United States of America out of their country."
The video was shot by an unknown person who accompanied Mrs. Sheehan on her bus ride from the Veterans for Peace convention, held in in Dallas, to Crawford.
The video also contains footage of Mrs. Sheehan talking strategy on the bus ride from Dallas. In response to a fellow activist who mentions remarks by a woman from the Austin Peace and Justice Center that, "The polls are plumeting, people are dying--now's the time," a smiling Mrs. Sheehan says, "Momentum," and adds that they need to "press the advantage."
The end of the thirty minute video shows the confrontation between Mrs. Sheehan and sheriffs when the activist's march to the president's ranch was stopped because the group violated their agreement to march in the ditch along the road by walking on the road itself.
An emotional Mrs. Sheehan is seen pleading with the sheriffs to be allowed to continue, swearing repeatedly that she did not walk on the road, that she kept her promise to them to walk in the ditch.
Immediately after the confrontation, Mrs. Sheehan says she did walk on the road, but just a little bit, because she's afraid of snakes.
It was a performance any parent of an eight-year-old knows well, but rather pathetic coming from a grown woman.
As many observers know, Mrs. Sheehan has gotten a free ride from the mainstream media. Were it not for the research of Freepers that has been picked up by the likes of Matt Drudge, Bill O'Reilly and Christopher Hitchens, the public would not be aware of Mrs. Sheehan's radical politics and disingenuousness.
As documented by the video, the mainstream press knew of Mrs. Sheehan's remarks on her first day in Crawford where she called foreign terrorists entering Iraq (AKA al Qaeda in Iraq) 'freedom fighters' and expressed her sympathy for car bombers and suicide bombers, yet chose not to inform the American people about them.
There's a scandal here, and it's not just Mrs. Sheehan's sympathy for the terrorists.
That's the money quote, right there. This "grieving" mother's protest has been nothing more than politically motivated grandstanding from the start, as was expected. It is absolutely disgusting that "now's the time" for her to start using her son's death to push her seditious agenda.
Apparently she's been grandstanding a while.
And it looks like George Bush wasn't her first choice for a meeting.
I found this from January (sorry it's so long):

The Dangerous Gold Star Families
by Cindy Sheehan
Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld continues to astound us Gold Star Families with his heartlessness, callousness and disrespect in the faces of our children who are being killed in the mindless invasion and occupation of Iraq.
I am one of the founding members of a group called Gold Star Families for Peace. Some of us families who have lost loved ones in this illegal and immoral war in Iraq have organized to use our collective voices to bring the tragedy of war to the fore front of Americas hearts and souls like it so tragically is in ours. We families are amazed that so few of our fellow citizens are touched by the horrors of the invasion and occupation of a sovereign country. It seems to us like the only people who are asked to sacrifice anything for the war effort are our brave young men and women fighting this so-called war and their families. There are some families in our nation like us, that have paid the ultimate price for the lies and betrayals of this current administration.
I, and some other Gold Star Families, have been writing and calling the Department of Defense for over three weeks. We were all meeting in DC to protest the inauguration and we thought it would be a good time to meet with Donald Rumsfeld. We have many questions to ask him about our loved ones deaths and we deserve to have some answers. I think it is our right as Americans and grieving families to have these answers. For example, why were the children of this country sent to fight a war without the proper training, equipment or armor? Why were our children sent to fight a war that had no basis in reality? Why are American children still over there fighting a war, and dying in a war, when all the reasons for the war have been proven false? When is this administration going to bring the rest of our children home before its too late for their families?
If we were granted an audience with him, we didnt really expect Mr. Rumsfeld to be truthful with us or even polite to us considering his past history of being so sarcastically untruthful and blatantly rude. The real reason I wanted to meet with Rumsfeld was so he could see the face of my son, Spc Casey Sheehan, who was killed in Sadr City on 04/04/04. I wanted him to look me in the face and see my red swollen eyes and to see all the lines that grief has etched. I wanted him to see the unbearable pain his ignorance and arrogance has caused me and my family. I wanted him to know that his actions have terrible consequences.
Our letters, phone calls, faxes, and e-mails to the Pentagon were to no avail: we received no response. So in conjunction with Military Families Speak Out (MFSO) we decided to go to the Pentagon and try and meet with someone, anyone. We were met at the parking lot by a couple of dozen of police officers blocking our way. We were told that we werent allowed to go into the Pentagon because we didnt go through the proper protocol to request a meeting!!
I find it so ironic that with all the tight security for the events in DC this week that enough time and energy was mustered to stop families in mourning so forcefully at the Pentagon. I also find it ironic that if I were a wealthy Republican who had donated large sums of money for the re-election of the President, I could have had access to all the big wigs at the lavish parties
but I, whose son paid the ultimate price of his precious life to this country, cant even get within a half of a mile from the man who sent him to die.
We Gold Star Families for Peace are not giving up the fight to hold someone in this administration accountable for the quagmire in Iraq and the more important struggle to bring the rest of our children home from this devastating occupation now. It takes most of our energy just to get out of our beds in the morning and mourn our horrific losses. We need all Americans to wake up and start lobbying their elected officials for an end to this immorality in Iraq and to join our voices in protest.
Cindy Sheehan is a member of Gold Star Families for Peace.
God Bless Our Troops! All gave some - some gave all.
"Mrs. Sheehan also expressed sympathy for Iraqis who have used car bombs and suicide bombings to fight the American-led coalition forces in Iraq."
It sounds like she's okay with the fact that they killed her son. It's too bad we can't ask him if he feels the same way.
Great job....
For some unknown reason, I am unable to view the video file, but I trust your word, Kristinn.
Now here's my question.... I have one large board on which I am plotting how best to fill it.
What if I said, "Cindy says Casey killed by 'freedom fighters.'"
Do you think that's too strong??
Can someone just send this grieving lunatic to Guantanamo and be done with it? I am sure, with her beliefs, she could really help all of those poor ragheads and console them for their obvious mistreatment and unjust incarceration... sarcasm off.
I wonder what this know-it-all has to say about saddam paying $30,000 to the families of suicide bombers in Israel?
again
if fire fighters fight fire and crime fighters fight crime, what to freedom fighters fight?
Shows you how out of touch the MSM is. Its been mentioned for weeks that she said this.
Guess they wanted to make sure they were guaranteed at least a couple weeks of maximum Bush bashing coverage before they tell the real story in a small article on page 12.
