Best estimates for a truly secure (Israel-style) wall are $8 billion just to build it. Then you have to man it and maintain it.

"Congress voted Saturday to give NASA all of the $16.2 billion it sought for 2005, money not only to return the space shuttles to flight but also to start designing a replacement spaceship and planning moon missions."

Geez, we could have a huge improvement in border security for decades for about the cost of one year of the useless space shuttle and space station? Let's do it!

You think W will let it happen? Nope. And who will stand up to him?

It's not that I don't want it to be built, but it's unrealistic to think that it will be. Nobody in Washington has the stomach for it.

And what new taxes should we institute to pay for it? Where will we get the tens of billions it'll require? Remember, no Congressman, Senator or President will give up even a scrap of his own personal pork - this will be an additional expenditure, with new taxes needed to pay for it.
