Sierra Vista is a military town, finding its foundation linked to Fort Huachuca.
That brings pride to the city, along with jobs.
Sierra Vistans are people who are giving and caring about the men and women deployed overseas.
Jana Proctor is one example of this. In the past year, she headed the effort to raise money to buy misters to give to soldiers in Iraq and the Middle East. The purpose of the misters is to keep the troops cool in the desert heat.
And when the first drive reached its goal, another was recently launched to provide even more of the cooling devices.
We applaud Proctor's efforts. Last week, she received $2,100 more from the Fort Huachuca 50. That doesn't count what she's already raised, and what the community has already given in the other efforts that are made to support our troops.
The days in Iraq must be long and lonely for many of our men and women. Having them know that we're thinking about them is just one way to play a role in making their harsh duty a little better. The kindness given to them will be returned in the kindness they give to others.
It is people such as Proctor who help show that Sierra Vistans are caring and have a take-charge attitude when it comes to supporting our fort and the soldiers who are stationed here.
excellent.
Indeed. Thanks for the ping. If only more in the media would follow this paper's lead, to promote the Jana Proctors among us.
