If you believe Jesus is God (aka "I and the Father are One"), Then He killed the Sodomites, Every human on the face of the Earth save 8 in the Flood, Several battles that were won by the Jews, He even killed a witch or two. In the final battles, he will kill billions by many plagues.
I honestly don't understand the notion that because we have a loving merciful God, people that say they have read about Him and believe in Him, don't understand judgment. God has used people to carry out His Plan from the beginning of time. Did David kill Goliath, or did God? If God hadn't wanted David to be "His man", then Goliath would have killed David and history would have been different. Pharaoh was God's tool just as much as Moses. Nineveh was used for God's glory even though they hated Jonah and his people.
Just as Lincoln said to one of his officers after he said he hoped God was on their side, Lincoln replied, "I hope we are on God's side". It is important to know the mind of God and follow Him, not a TV preacher or a pope. They have zero to do with God's plan. God's plan may, however, use TV preachers or popes to get His will accomplished. I wonder how many on this board would gripe if the pope called for Chavez's death? The last beloved pope said Bush was wrong to be in Iraq. Where was the outrage then?
Like I said, Robertson is just another celebrity to me, but that doesn't make what he says automatically wrong anymore than a pope automatically right.
The Bible was written to allow us to know the nature of our God. It's too bad people pick the parts they want, and skip the parts that don't match what they want. God will send literally 10's of billions to hell just because they didn't know Him. His mercy comes because He gave us a way out, not because He overlooks it.
Why would God bother to create these persons, knowing what they are going to do...then judge them and smite the crap out of them and punish them for eternity? Since He knew what they were going to do, why did He create them?
