Governor Perry Tends to Unfinished Business (School Finance)

Governor Uses Executive Powers To Facilitate Education Reforms-

"Today I am issuing an executive order that will put into law some of the most important education reforms that lawmakers failed to pass, including a requirement that 65 percent of all education funds be spent on direct classroom instruction," Perry said. "This executive order will mean more financial accountability for taxpayers, more efficiency in school spending and more money directed to the classroom so that more children achieve."

-snip-

"While the legislative session has now ended, the need for school reform has not and Texans can rest assured that even though the legislature did not act, I will," Perry added. "The people have demanded reform, they have been promised reform and I intend to deliver reform using the full constitutional authority of the executive branch."

-snip-

Following public outcry over school districts and community organizations employing private entities to lobby the legislature on their behalf, the accountability reports will also specify how much money is being spent to pay dues or contributions to a non-instructional club, committee or organization, and how much has been provided to any person or organization for the purpose of lobbying. Additionally, funds expended for consulting services, media and public relations services, as well as those expended for legal services, including legal fees spent on lawsuits against the state will be monitored.

Looks like he is going to make them open their accounting files so we can finally see where the waste is happening.

This will throw a wrench in Democrat plans.

Strayhorn has been taking major campaign donations for major Dem fund raisers....trial lawyers...etc.

Word of it got out......now this.

Good for Perry...the Texas education is nothing but waste in the administration and bias in the classroom.

I am a staunch supporter of Governor Perry.

He is a better governor than many give him credit for due to his willingness to keep a low profile.

He supported my efforts to assist fire fighters in supporting President Bush as our union attempted to fool the American public into believing fire fighters were behind Kerry.

He's a good man. The better you know him the more you'll like him.

He has been a good Gov. Strayhorn is nothing but a democrat running as a republican. A few weeks ago, the news reported that over 1 million of the 7 million she had raised was given by BIG TIME DEM DONORS. One of the people arranging donations for her....IS BEN BARNES!!!

Yikes. Then there are the trial lawyers. If she gets elected....say goodbye to the tort reform that Perry has started.

I know some fire fighters who were upset about the Association doing that. They backed Bush....and Perry helped spread their word.

Thank you for helping get that word out.

I was one of a handful of firefighters who ran the grass roots Fire Fighters for Bush movement.

We sold shirts nation wide out of Austin.

The Governor jogged threw central park in NY city with one of our shirt on.

He is a strong leader.
