WASHINGTON -- When Sen. Trent Lott decides which GOP presidential candidate to support in 2008, it apparently will not be Sen. Bill Frist, the Tennessee Republican who Lott says betrayed him at a low moment in his political career.
Asked Sunday whether Frist, who succeeded Lott as Senate majority leader in 2002, has the character to be president, Lott paused before answering.
''I think I'd have to think about that,'' said Lott (R-Miss.).
Lott said ''a lot of good people out there'' are thinking about whether to run and that ''I probably would lean toward some of the others, let me just put it that way.''
In a new book, Herding Cats, A Lifetime in Politics, Lott fingers Frist as one of the ''main manipulators'' in the events that led to Lott's fall from power.
Lott lost the majority leader's post in 2002 after making racially tinged remarks. Lott wrote that Frist's actions amounted to a ''personal betrayal.''
Frist ''didn't even have the courtesy to call and tell me personally that he was going to run,'' Lott wrote.
Just another case of the politically impotent trashing the politicall impotent.
gee what a political "mind" lott has....any idiot could have predicted this long ago
What a WHINER! No wonder we were treading water so long under his lead.
I was going to say the "Pot calling the Kettle black", but yours is just as good :)
Perhaps I should reconsider and support Frist? When Trent "the Pork King" Lott is against someone, there must be something good about them.
Just another case of the politically impotent trashing the politicall impotent.

Exactly. Who does Lott think he is? Ronald Reagan ??
Lott may not have been a good Senate Leader, and it may have been a good thing that he lost that position, but he was done in by his own party because of some harmless politically incorrect statements about a man near death.
That sets a fairly frightening precedent for a party who will always be held to a different standard.
Isn't this like Trent Lott's 14th belly-ache about Frist in the past two weeks?
He surrendered the fight faster than a Frenchman.
I'm sure Frist is a good guy and all but I wouldn't vote for him either. He has a poor record of allowing democrats to block us and is not shrewd enough to keep wayward republicans in line.
Frist's chances are right up there with the Nebraska turkey.

I certainly agree with this part -- and it is one of the blatant symptoms of the WEAKNESS OF THE REPUBS -- they are so damned afraid of someone (the MSM or the DemoCraps) saying anything negative about them, they have become DISFUNCTIONAL politically. They are no longer fighters. Their image (and the reality) of weakness is setting them up for BIG FALLS in 2006/2008 -- at least setting them up for a major ANTI-INCUMBENT vote, still along Repub lines.
Not to mention his sudden compromisew on stem cell research. I respect him as a Christian, but I won't be voting for Frist.
If Lott stood up on the floor of the senate and refered to "My distingushed colleague from West Virginia, Sheets Byrd" I would have a little respect for him.
I too have a dim view of Senator Frist. I have an even dimmer view of Trent Lott. However Frist is retiring from the Senate because he thinks he should be King er uh President, so he is history politically. As for Lott, I think this book tells us that he will not be running for reelection. My guess is he will wait until the last minute to announce that "he wants to spend more time with his family". This will put the GOP in a bind by not having a candidate in the wings. Pay Back! In addition, I would bet dollars to donuts (stale donuts) that the Democrats take one or both of these seats. My guess is Mike Moore in Mississippi.
It's kind of funny how at this point in the election cycle, the incompetents start jockeying for a starting gate position. Like these two clowns, Hagel(sp) or McVain have a chance to get the nomination (2008). Ha!
Frist has all the charisma of an undertaker.
