Immigrant bashing won’t fix problems
The Virginian-Pilot ^ | August 23, 2005 | Editorial

Posted on 08/22/2005 1:10:58 PM PDT by bayourod

Illegal immigration is a complex national problem.

It won’t be solved by piecemeal attacks such as that of GOP gubernatorial hopeful Jerry Kilgore in opposing a day laborer site in Herndon.

Such tactics fuel anti-immigrant prejudices while skipping the hard part, acknowledging the broad tradeoffs and difficult compromises necessary for a permanent solution.

If exploitation of nativist emotion isn’t Kilgore’s intention, then he should pull the plug on this line of campaigning.

At issue is the proposal of a coalition of community organizations to open a day laborer site in a soon-to-be abandoned police station straddling the Herndon-Loudoun County line. Currently, scores of men gather daily at a nearby convenience store to await the arrival of private employers who hire them for day labor in construction, yard work, and the like.

Kilgore joined critics calling the proposed site a haven for illegal immigrants and a breeding ground for illegal activity.

But others argue convincingly that an official site, including a police or security presence, would more likely contain bad behavior while serving both small-time employers and legal workers. The Herndon council validated that view with a 5-2 vote Wednesday to open the center.

No doubt, some illegals will turn up there. But frustration with U.S. failure to stem the flow of illegal immigration ought to be directed toward Congress, the immigration service or others with an opportunity to make a real difference.

Virginians who grouse about illegal immigrants should open their eyes and see who’s really tending their lawns, putting new shingles on their roofs, cleaning toilets in their office building and hotels. Illegal immigrants are doing the dirty jobs that Virginians don’t want.

Kilgore characterized the problem in Herndon as one of illegals taking “hard-earned dollars from law-abiding citizens.”

In fact, the issue there and elsewhere wouldn’t exist except for America’s addiction to cheap labor. Undocumented workers sustain many of the services and prices Americans have come to expect.

Politicians as diverse as President George Bush, GOP Sen. John McCain and Democratic Sen. Edward Kennedy acknowledge that a much-expanded temporary worker program, combined with some form of enforceable amnesty for illegals with long tenure here, is the only hope for getting a handle on the problem.

Name-calling about undocumented workers who supposedly leach the system dry might win votes. But it won’t make the problem go away.

In our conservative circles around here, we call RINOs like bayourod "brie nibbling, chardonnay sipping liberals".
Seems to fit this particular quisling.

His desire to make himself feel good and his quickness to play the race card indicate 100% USDA Liberal.

Why they let him stay here and spew his anti-American, open borders nonsense is beyond me. He clearly doesn't have to live with the results of anything that he is advocating.

That is the most evil of all. Like most liberals who don't actually have to live with the results of their opinions and then go to bed patting themselves on the back as being "good people" all the while undermining the USA in the name of their own warm personal cocoon of "goodness."

Maybe, like the illegals themselves, he has powerful friends.

Can someone explain something to me? Please see the highlighted passages on the screenshots I took of Bayourod's page:

How is it that Bayourod can charge "racism" against these people when the post below......uh....

"Since you have so much compassion for Illegal Mexican immigrants "

Not me. As I've posted before, I have no affinity for Mexicans or Americans of Hispanic descent.

If I had my personal preference, instead of Mexican laborers, we would have Western European laborers with blond hair and blue eyes pouring across our borders bringing their beautiful daughters. But that isn't reality. Neither is "sealing the border".

To recognize that Republicans must not unnecessarily alienate Hispanic voters with gratuitous insults if we hope to keep Hillary out of the White House is not the same as saying that I want to invite them to live in my house. However all my relations with Hispanics have been good. Can't say that about Nigerians and half a dozen other types.

Illegal immigrants are doing the dirty jobs that Virginians don’t want.

What a crock. They're doing jobs that Virginians won't because they've depressed wages to the point where it's still attractive for someone here illegally who would be making a lot less back home.

Of course it's baloney. As it usually does when left alone, the market will solve that "problem" once illegals are not part of the equation. If jobs need to be done, the market will find the level of wages needed to attract the appropriate labor to perform them.

The various entitlements provided by government also must be appropriate to provide sustanance to the needy without being too great so as to discourage the desire to work. i.e. don't pay people as much for doing nothing as they would get for working basic jobs. There must be some incentive to work.

About bayourod's posts, my clear impression is that the one thing you can depend on is that the facts and statements he puts in them can't be depended on to be true. E.g., his Walter Mitty story about contacting the FBI about an alien and setting off an alert in Post #237.

Get your "Tancredo For President" bumper sticker from Oregonians For Immigration Reform. Tom Tancredo leads the charge to stop illegal immigration. He heads up the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus. He is fighting for the survival of America. President Bush has made it clear that he is for open borders. He is willing to sacrifice our nation on the altar of globalism. Dump G.W. Bush and pick Tancredo for President in 2004! One bumper sticker for $3, or two for $5 Mail check or cash to: OFIR PO Box 1438 McMinnville, OR 97128 Representative Tom Tancredo (R-CO)

"His desire to make himself feel good and his quickness to play the race card indicate 100% USDA Liberal."

And he has the FR suspension record to back it up.

"Why they let him stay here and spew his anti-American, open borders nonsense is beyond me."

That is a question many of us have wrestled with. FR is a conservative site for loyal American conservatives. This individual cannot, by any stretch of the imagination, be considered a loyal American conservative. I have a test question I use for establishing the bona fides of those who claim conservative status. Our pro-illegal alien apologist/enabler ran from my question rather than risk being outed for what he really is: a GOP Hispandering Big Tent RINO, liberal or moderate--and this is important--at best.

"He clearly doesn't have to live with the results of anything that he is advocating.

That is the most evil of all."

And the most despicable.

And, in your view, exactly what would that meaning be?

Note that bayourod has dropped out of the discussion, since he was busted as a racist in post #304 by Stellar Dendrite (good catch and I will bookmark that the next time that lying traitor shows up)

Unless he has been banned again...?

You are a good person -- Czar -- you provide a benefit of the doubt where I just can't. ;)

Simple. It's called "lying", "slander", "race baiting", "guilt by association". Techniques employed by the Southern Poverty Law Center and other such hard left outfits.

When your interest is in defaming and demonizing your opponents, because that's all you've got, and you want to "win" at all costs, that's what you do. One of his old FROBL comrades used to routinely post SPLC garbage here at FR. Sadly, he "opused" and we no longer get the benefit of his mudslinging. sniff.

Approximately 50% of all undocumented aliens entered legally and simply failed to return after their temporary visa or authorization expired. That is not a crime.

Yes it is.

Diverse?? They're the three lying amigos, and they have no intention of trying to solve the problem of illegal immigration.
