To put this in perspective, this is from back in the day when Alan Keyes and FR held a rally on the mall in DC. I saw it on C-Span, that's where I first heard of FR. (I was logged in under a similar name- I went away for a few months, then came back and couldn't remember my old name.)

The best way I know, is to search Google with a year in the keywords, and limiting the search to FreeRepublic.com
For example, last night during the NatGeo Inside 9/11 special, I found the thread on James Wood and his story of being on the 9/11 test flight, and reporting it to the FBI, by using something like this in the Google search:
James Wood 2001 site:freerepublic.com
