Inept, see-no-evil Harvey should go

Column by Charles Webster Assemblyman Sean Kean is daring to go where no other lawmaker has had the guts to go before - he’s drawing up articles of impeachment for our esteemed Attorney General Peter "See No Evil" Harvey.

Kean says he has had it with See No Evil’s blindness to evil and his political antics with state homeland security grants is the absolute last straw.

You know the story.

Last month, it was reported that Democratic-controlled districts received $21.3 million, or 93 percent, of the money distributed through the state since 2002, while Republican areas got only $1.6 million.

No risk assessments, no critical infrastructure criteria used - just politics - nothing more, nothing less.

"Mr. Harvey played games with our security and is no longer fit to hold the office of attorney general," Kean said in a written statement about his request to the state Office of Legislative Services to have articles of impeachment drawn up against Harvey. "His repeated ethical transgressions and illegal misuse of state funding is inexcusable. He must be held accountable for this gaffe." Kean charged Harvey with malfeasance and the misappropriation of state funds allocated for the protection of New Jersey residents in a time of war as reasons for the impeachment.

Kean, a Republican from Wall Twp., is throwing down the gauntlet with Harvey and he wants Harvey out.

What Harvey has done is despicable, unconscionable, and unforgivable.

Harvey is a disgrace as a law enforcement official, and a total embarrassment as the state’s highest law enforcement officer.

Harvey has ignored political corruption in this state while it has occurred right under his nose. He has proven time and time again he is a puppet to the Democratic Party machine that keeps the wheels of corruption churning in the Garden State.

Harvey has twice the number of investigators and lawyers that U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Christopher Christie, yet Christie has an exemplary record for cracking down on corruption on both sides of the aisle. Harvey has nothing to show for anything.

Kudos for Kean. Harvey has been getting a free ride from lawmakers - especially from Sen. John Adler, a Democrat from Cherry Hill, who heads up the Senate Judiciary Committee that approved Harvey’s appointment.

Harvey has had his office wasting time and resources trying to fend off questions about some secretly recorded tapes of South Jersey Democratic Party Boss George Norcross instead of standing up like a real crime fighter.

It’s not hard to conclude that Harvey needs to get his walking papers and he needs to get going sooner rather than later.

But you just know that the race card is going to be pulled out on this one if these articles of impeachment ever really do see the light of day.

Here’s a clue - Harvey’s blindness to any wrongdoing is not about race, color, creed or national origin. It’s all about an ineptitude to do the job he was hired to do for the state of New Jersey, not Democrats only.

So, once OLS has printed up a few copies of the articles of impeachment, Kean should have lawmakers on both sides of the aisle climbing all over each other to get their name on the impeachment document.

But how much you want to wager that the only signatures Kean collects comes from his fellow Republicans and a few desperate Democrats pandering for votes in a critical swing district?

There is nothing more fun than Democrats exhibiting for the flyover states what they'll bring if they gain power again. Perhaps some day they'll learn to axe their own when they screw up, like the Republicans typically do.
