no, he just said immigration.

And those people who "immigrated" and went through Ellis Island are what?

Non-immigrant immigrants?

But I thought immigration was for single issue voters. /s

That's been the OBL political "mantra," hasn't it? Well, you can't let the equivalent of the entire population of New York State come into the country unauthorized over the past decade and expect the people who have a right to be here not to notice----or get legitimately upset. The politicians of both parties and their online hacks have only themselves to blame for thinking that, if they only allowed the problem of illegal immigration to get worse, it'd still stay an issue without broad appeal, one that only the "fringe" was interested in.

No real border control, no country, no NATION.

We are talking about the survival of the United States of America.

"Just an aside, can anyone tell me exactly why President Bush turns a blind eye to illegal immigration, especially as we live under the constant threat of terrorism these days? "

Just a guess here, but how about he takes a look across the pond at that thingee called the European Union and thinks...hmmm, that looks like such a cool thing, everybody working together, no borders, no customs or immigration problems, maybe we could try that over here?

Think that might run through his mind. If he could just get rid of that pesky ole "sovereinty" thingee, just think how much smoother and cool it would make it for business.

Betcha Dane, Bayousod and a few others on here think like that too.

"Yeah really, those people who came through Ellis Island were worthless(rolling eyes)."

Three things:

(1). I feel certain he was referring to illegal immigration, because that is the topic of discussion.

(2). Unlike those who slither through our southern border illegally, those who came through Ellis Islan were screened for disease, had jobs and homes awaiting them here, and had an American citizen sponsor.

(3). They happily accepted our language and LEARNED IT, they truly wanted to assimilate into our culture, as many even changed their names to Western sounding names, and they entered our country LEGALLY, not as felons.

I hope you can see the difference in how immigration worked back then, and how it is today. Then, we controlled the number of immigrants, and we knew who they were. Today, illegal immigrants are literally innumerable, and we have no damn clue who the h-ll they are, what they have done, who they are running from, or what diseases they bring into our country.

Those people who came through ellis island did not sit back on food stamps and welfare benefits. Not to mention free lunch programs, hud assistance, and special no interest loans to start up businesses.

I had a friend who worked in Glendale, Ca when all the Armenians were arriving here. Our nation gave them each $10,000.00 per person to come here. Free/low interest loans for business starts and housing. They look at American citizens as dirt. We are that stupid to let these freeloaders into our nation. I don't care what their native nation has done. We do not need to give those kinds of incentives to come here.

Looking for another diversion to derail the thread, Dane? Is someone here pushing the non sequitur that legal immigration isn't legal? Gee, I don't think so.

Flashbunny...see Dane's pals in action:

Listen to and watch the pro-illegal immigrant protesters yell things like:
"DEATH TO THE READNECKS"...
"Zarqawi is a GREAT GRINGO KILLER!", "INTIFADA!", "You stole this land!", etc.
This is a wake-up call, folks...

Perhaps you've already seen this, but that's ok, 'cuase I'm gonna keep posting this:

Many know Dick Lamm as the former Governor of Colorado. In that context his thoughts are particularly poignant. Recently there was an immigration-overpopulation conference in Washington, DC, filled to capacity by many of American's finest minds and leaders. A brilliant college professor named Victor Hansen Davis talked about his latest book, "Mexifornia," explaining how immigration - both legal and illegal was destroying the entire state of California. He said it would march across the country until it destroyed all vestiges of The American Dream.

Moments later, former Colorado Governor Richard D. Lamm stood up and gave a stunning speech on how to destroy America. The audience sat spellbound as he described eight methods for the destruction of the United States. He said, "If you believe that America is too smug, too self-satisfied, too rich, then let's destroy America. It is not that hard to do. No nation in history has survived the ravages of time. Arnold Toynbee observed that all great civilizations rise and fall and that 'An autopsy of history would show that all great nations commit suicide.'"

1. "Here is how they do it," Lamm said: "Turn America into a bilingual or multi-lingual and bi-cultural country. History shows that no nation can survive the tension, conflict, and antagonism of two or more competing languages and cultures. It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; however, it is a curse for a society to be bilingual.

"The historical scholar Seymour Lipset put it this way: 'The histories of bilingual and bi-cultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension, and tragedy.' Canada, Belgium, Malaysia, Lebanon all face crises of national existence in which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence. Pakistan and Cyprus have divided. Nigeria suppressed an ethnic rebellion. France faces difficulties with Basques, Bretons, and Corsicans."

2. Lamm went on: "Invent 'multiculturalism' and encourage immigrants to maintain their culture. I would make it an article of belief that all cultures are equal. That there are no cultural differences. I would make it an article of faith that the Black and Hispanic dropout rates are due to prejudice and discrimination by the majority. Every other explanation is out of bounds.

3. "We could make the United States an 'Hispanic Quebec' without much effort. The key is to celebrate diversity rather than unity. As Benjamin Schwarz said in the Atlantic Monthly recently: 'The apparent success of our own multi-ethnic and multicultural experiment might have been achieved not by tolerance but by hegemony. Without the dominance that once dictated ethnocentrically and what it meant to be an American, we are left with only tolerance and pluralism to hold us together.'"

4. Lamm said, "I would encourage all immigrants to keep their own language and culture. I would replace the melting pot metaphor with the salad bowl metaphor. It is important to ensure that we have various cultural subgroups living in America reinforcing their differences rather than as Americans, emphasizing their similarities."

5. "Fourth, I would make our fastest growing demographic group the least educated. I would add a second underclass, unassimilated, undereducated, and antagonistic to our population. I would have this second underclass have a 50% dropout rate from high school."

6. "My fifth point for destroying America would be to get big foundations and business to give these efforts lots of money. I would invest in ethnic identity, and I would establish the cult of 'Victimology.' I would get all minorities to think their lack of success was the fault of the majority. I would start a grievance industry blaming all minority failure on the majority population."

7. "My sixth plan for America's downfall would include dual citizenship and promote divided loyalties. I would celebrate diversity over unity. I would stress differences rather than similarities. Diverse people worldwide are mostly engaged in hating each other - that is, when they are not killing each other."

"A diverse, peaceful, or stable society is against most historical precedent. People undervalue the unity it takes to keep a nation together. Look at the ancient Greeks. The Greeks believed that they belonged to the same race; they possessed a common language and literature; and they worshiped the same gods. All Greece took part in the Olympic games. A common enemy Persia threatened their liberty. Yet all these bonds were not strong enough to over come two factors: local patriotism and geographical conditions that nurtured political divisions. Greece fell. "E. Pluribus Unum" -- >From many, one. In that historical reality, if we put the emphasis on the 'pluribus' instead of the 'unum,' we can balkanize America as surely as Kosovo."

8. "Next to last, I would place all subjects off limits ~ make it taboo to talk about anything against the cult of 'diversity.' I would find a word similar to 'heretic' in the 16th century - that stopped discussion and paralyzed thinking. Words like 'racist' or 'xenophobe' halt discussion and debate."

"Having made America a bilingual/bi-cultural country, having established multi-culturism, having the large foundations fund the doctrine of 'Victimology,' I would next make it impossible to enforce our immigration laws. I would develop a mantra: That because immigration has been good for America, it must always be good. I would make every individual immigrant symmetric and ignore the cumulative impact of millions of them."

9. In the last minute of his speech, Governor Lamm wiped his brow. Profound silence followed. Finally he said, "Lastly, I would censor Victor Hanson Davis's book Mexifornia. His book is dangerous. It exposes the plan to destroy America. If you feel America deserves to be destroyed, don't read that book."

There was no applause. A chilling fear quietly rose like an ominous cloud above every attendee at the conference. Every American in that room knew that everything Lamm enumerated was proceeding methodically, quietly, darkly, yet pervasively across the United States today. Every discussion is being suppressed. Over 100 languages are ripping the foundation of our educational system and national cohesiveness. Barbaric cultures that practice female genital mutilation are growing as we celebrate 'diversity.'

American jobs are vanishing into the Third World as corporations create a Third World in America - take note of California and other states - to date, ten million illegal aliens and growing fast. It is reminiscent of George Orwell's book "1984." In that story, three slogans are engraved in the Ministry of Truth building: "War is peace," "Freedom is slavery," and "Ignorance is strength."

Governor Lamm, walked back to his seat. It dawned on everyone at the conference that our nation and the future of this great democracy is deeply in trouble and worsening fast. If we don't get this immigration monster stopped within three years, it will rage like a California wildfire and destroy everything in its path, especially The American Dream.

"I would go more for both parents as legal residents or at least one parent a U.S. citizen."

So would Tancredo. "`(ii) acknowledge that a child born to them during their stay in the United States will not be granted U.S. citizenship unless the other parent is a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident;"

Here's a thought. We've seen how proud he is of the illegals that have joined the service and given them citizenship for that. So that's incentive for them to join up. We need all the recruits we can get, right? Now, if you're a young person, without family wealth, odds are illegals have taken most job prospects you might find. Especially those "menial" jobs one might take while trying to go to college. So,what's a good alternative for you? Join the service. Just a thought.

Look for the line: "Our economy will implode if we don't let in millions more from Mexico." They're already floating it here.

Americans should be proud of its legal immigrants. I know, because I am married to a Patrick Henry citizen. My Russian wife was sworn in as an American citizen on 5/27 of this year. She was thrilled with American history, and months prior to her exam she went around stating, "Just give me liberty or give me death." The ironic part is she almost got death, because she had a strong reaction to the required immunizations, and had to be hospitalized twice. There are other problems:

In August 2002 we applied to bring her 22 year old daughter here, and at that time it took 40 months, which we understood and accepted. However, the governement provides very few immigrant visas for the adult relatives of CITIZENS. Since our application the time frame has increased to 52 months, but there is more. The time frame is only advancing 3 months per year. It now looks like it will take 9 years for our daughter to immigrate here. However, that is not all. It's ironic that the relatives of Green Card holders can get here faster than the adult sons and daughters of citizens.

Clearly illegal aliens, lottery winners, H1-B workers, asylum seekers, and relatives of permanent residents are more important than the adult children of CITIZENS. Furthermore, our stepdaughter is not even allowed to visit America, and that is due to American laws, not Russian. For a country that speaks of making our children a high priority we see nothing but hypocrisy. I served many years on a Special Forces A-Team during Nam to support what I believe in, but our country now believes illegals are more important.

Its simple. CFR and CAFTA laid it all out for everyone to see. GWB is the worst of worst I have ever seen on this issue and cares not a bit about our soverignty as a nation or its normal mainstream citizens.

Here is something I posted on another thread...might be worth taking a look at.

~.~

[snip]

Be that as it may, terrorism and illegal immigration are intertwined. They are also both criminal enterprises, and as such, they will continue to find ways to try and cross the border illegally, for various reasons. The terrorists because they obviously don't wish to be tracked and stopped before implementing their plans...and the "economic refugees" that want to make a living and send money back to relatives, etc. (Another of those intangibles we mentioned is how much money is lost by being sent back to Mexico or other South/Central American countries, rather than being spent in our economy)

We cannot guarantee everyone's safety with these measures, but at least we are closing the easy routes...and a big, concrete wall guarded by the Border Patrol would be a much better deterrent than what they currently face.

Terrorists (specifically Islamic ones) are better financed than what you typically think of as illegal immigrants. There was an excellent, lengthy article on that very topic in US News and World Report in 2003, I believe. It talked about terror cells (mostly for financial/moral support) for Al Qaida, Hezbollah, etc. Here is the link...check it out. It concentrates mostly on Chavez and Venezuela, but it is eye opening nonetheless.

http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/articles/031006/6venezuela.htm

All that being said, I'd rather do something than throw up my hands in defeat.

And this:

A guest worker program will do nothing to stop the flood of illegals crossing the border, it will simply legalize the ones that are already here. In fact, I would stake the farm that a guest worker program will encourage even more to attempt an illegal crossing.

What is the advantage of waiting in line and doing things the legal way, when you can cut the red tape by crossing illegally, and then applying for guest worker status once you are here. It can and will be done, even if with fake ID's and social security or tax id numbers. Heck, in some states, you don't even need proof of residence to get a driver's license...just the matricula card from the Mexican embassy. (I hope I spelled that right, my apologies if not) I don't know about other Latin American countries.

I can't think of anyone (personally) that things that immigrants are worthless...but ILLEGAL immigrants are certainly a boatload of trouble. I'm sure you are intelligent enough to grasp the difference between "Ellis Island" immigrants and ILLEGAL immigrants. I'm also sure you are smart enough to realize the implications of uncontrolled illegal immigration and unenforced current immigration law.

You can, can't you?

Right. We have 20 million Illegals and the economy is picking up, we'd all be millionaires with another 20 million more!!

One that is seriously being repeated is the "we need them because of the 40 million abortions". I'm not sure if this one means we'd have so many people, X amount would be delegated to "jobs Americans don't want" or the larger US population would make Illegals decide to stay home. As if any Illegal Alien weighs such considerations before they leave home.
