Lt. Col. Shaffer: Able Danger Docs Disappeared

Documents detailing the work of a top secret military intelligence unit that identified lead 9/11 hijacker Mohamed Atta before the 9/11 attacks have disappeared, according to the Defense Intelligence Agency's liaison for the group, code named Able Danger.

"There's some troubling things that have happened both to me and the way the [Able Danger] information [was handled]," Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer told C-Span's "Sunday Morning Journal." "Shortly after I talked to the 9/11 Commission, there was some issues going on about the documentation. Right now as it stands this minute, to my knowledge, the documentation I had . . . we don't know where it is."

"It's not where I left it back in March of 2003," Shaffer said, which was "in a Department intelligence facility in the Northern Virginia area."

Shaffer told C-Span he had "one full set of Able Danger documents in my holdings from the DIA."

The Able Danger whistleblower had said previously that a member of the team had delivered two briefcases full of documents to the 9/11 Commission - but Commission spokesman have said they have found nothing that mentioned Atta by name.

Imagine the results if, instead of the Pizza Bomber Mystery; Geraldo (and FoxNews) had decided to do an investigative special called the 'Stuffed Pants Caper' . . .

now you know we don't investigate caring democrats. they do the work of the people.

yall that plane you see heading for this building must certainly be sightseeing.

That's precisely why they had to disappear.

" Now hold on there bucko....

Remember the project was shut down. That means everything is rounded up and put into boxes and shipped to the archives."

Good points. Thanks for reminding me. I did omit (forget the fact), that operation was no longer active. So I am in 100%
agreement with the remainder of your statements.
Like you said the Slick One,Sandy the Burgular, or someone else working in the DoD, DIA for that matter conviently have all the boxes removed and burnt etc..
Burgular works the National Archives, methodically over a few days removes all copies of whatever he was looking for and accidentally destroyes the key, most incriminating ones, returns the chaff to the archives once caught, after carefull video survelliance over given time frame, meanwhile the real crooks slip into the warehouse and remove all traces of the 15 boxes plus. They are now carbon fibers floating around the beltway. Clintoon in his victory chuckles over once more pulling over a quite slick stunt on the American public.
Thanks for the input (required corrections).

"If two briefcases contained 1/20th of the documents, how the hell does something that would require 40 briefcases just vanish?!"

The "order" goes out...Just like a pizza order.

If we've been taught anything by Bubba Clinton, it's discovering ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING can be covered up by this government.

"Compromised functionaries?"

Sad. But do check out Konaice's rebuttal to my statements.
He makes some very good points I did not take into consideration. The project was closed down, therefore the systems could have depending on their importants, been literally wiped out, e.g. disks erasesed, etc.. So perhaps,
only boxes of perhaps paper notes may have been stored in the appropriate warehouse.

I agree. if indeed "everything dissapears", it will be because both sides,a nd the permanent beauracracy at these agencies, have scrubbed it all clean.

"Here is a link to the C-span interview, I can't get the link to work (there is something wrong with Real Player on this computer)."

Thanks for the URL link to real time. I have a slow dial up line and that streaming usually takes billion of years to download. So I will have to pass on it. But thanks for the thought.

If I was Shaffer, and knew the ways of the Clintonistas, I would have multiple copies of these documents on CDs that I would give to several different lawyers and other people I trusted with very explicit instructions about what I wanted done if anything happened to me.

"Americans will demand an investigation."

Yeah, sure. Who do you think is in control here?

If he kept one full set, and he had lost his security clearance as was reported, then this is series.

He didn't say HE kept one full set, he said he LEFT one full set in DIA were he worked.

I still do not understand the timing of this whole able danger revelation. why now? I could think of several better times to have done this, especially if Shaffer is sitting on the documents, for example, right after the 9-11 comission issued its report. so he goes public now, and then follows it up with "the docs seems to be missing" a week later? something is not right.

How could a man not have knowledge of the current location of the files, before going on a national barnstorming tour accusing the former president of a crime that lead to 3000+ deaths?

Trust. But Verify.

There will be another way to get documentation about the information Able Danger was gathering. They were not able to share things with the FBI or CIA...however, if there is a terrorist threat that may put the President in danger...

So there may yet be a "trail" of communications to back up the claims Able Danger is making. If you catch my drift.

I guess I'm late to this story. Is Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer retired? Active Duty? Reserve? Why is he allowed to discuss all of this?

I am a firm believer (and call me crazy if you want) that absolutely nothing of this nature "just happens" inside the Beltway. There is plenty of planning into the nature and timing of the "leaks."

He's no longer with DIA, so he has no access to it.

He can get clearance to release certain portions of what he knows.
