The personal argument
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 8/21/5 | Debra J. Saunders

VACAVILLE'S Cindy Sheehan, the mother of Casey Sheehan who died in combat in Iraq, became a public figure when she demanded a second visit with President Bush so he could answer her questions: "Why did you kill my son? What did my son die for?" She had set up camp near the president's home, until a second tragedy -- her mother's stroke -- caused her to leave Thursday.

By the time that happened, Sheehan, who has made her personal situation the issue and has hurled so many personal insults at others, was complaining that the protests are "not about me," they're about the war.

Not true. Cindy Sheehan never asked Bush to meet with other mothers of those who have died in Iraq. She has never tried to represent those mothers of slain soldiers who support the war. What's more, while many thoughtful critics of the war exist, Sheehan personifies the me-me-me focus of the anti-war movement. And that corner doesn't think.

Note how Sheehan refuses to look at the war as anything but the spawn of President Bush. She won't acknowledge that the newly elected Iraqi government doesn't want U.S. troops to leave yet. She simply repeats the same old anti- war movement slogans: Bush lied. Bush killed her son. Last week, CNN's Anderson Cooper asked Sheehan how she reacted to an Internet plea by two Iraqi dentists to stop calling for immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. Cooper read the words: "You are free to go and leave us alone but what am I going to tell your million sisters in Iraq? Should I ask them to leave Iraq, too? Should I leave, too?

Huh. and it is in the SF Chron?

Who knew.

At best she is a woman deranged by grief and manipulated in her time of weakness. Thoughtful arguments can be made against the war, but the false and inflammatory slogans she parrots do not do justice to the solemnity of her son's death nor the deaths of many others involved in Hussein's egomaniacal wars.

I have become weary of the argument that Cindy Sheehan is overcome with grief over the loss of her son. I don't buy it. I believe she is a practicing leftist who was a leftist before her son enlisted in the military and has returned to her roots.

Her actions are anything but those of a grieving mother. The whole grieving mother bit is more for "show and tell" than for anything related to her son's death. If anyone has dishonored the memory of her son, it is her.

Debra Saunders has finally called her on it and Ms. Sheehan is going to hide behind her mother's stroke and her "desire for privacy". Draw your own conclusion.

I realize my comment is not on point with the article, but I can't help but wonder ... I wonder if Cindy ever had an abortion.

Why did she raise a patriotic son? If she had taught him to hate America he'd be alive today.

Great article. "Asked for her thoughts, Sheehan could only protest that she wasn't programmed to answer that question". Wonder who is "programming" this verbally abusive cretin.

Forget about that: how much did she train to consistently put on that mopey-dopey face, and how much effort did it take to master that dull, sing-songy 12-year old girl whiny voice?

I sure hope that's not her normal voice.

The context may be missing but it serves the Left's interests. You'd never know it from Jihad Cindy's protests but at one point the Democrats supported the liberation of Iraq. Go figure.

I really have to wonder if Sheehan's mother had a stroke, or if that was just a convenient way to get her loser a55 out of an obviously stupid situation?

"At best she is a woman deranged by grief and manipulated in her time of weakness."

What? This nut case was a liberal confused nut many years before her son died. Her sons death just gave her a chance, with all the nutty brain dead MSM and organizations, to give her a pulpit. What a disgrace to her sons death. This should be a good example of the hate crowd of the world. All your hate will fester until something kicks your a@@, then you will end up like her. Understanding the truth just might heal you.
