Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, just one day after praising Sacramento politicians for trying to negotiate a deal on his reform agenda, took a combative tone Friday and insisted that the Nov. 8 special election "is not a referendum on me'' but on the state's lawmakers "who created the problems in California.''
The California governor, at an appearance at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, vowed to pass his self-styled reform agenda of shortened teacher tenure, a budget cap and a new political redistricting plan "no matter how many unions or special interests get in my way.''
But the governor's critics have a different definition of the special interests, noting that he was jetting off later Friday for a series of big- ticket fundraisers.
Those events include a $25,000-a-head dinner in Nevada and Sunday's Rolling Stones concert in Boston -- where $100,000 could get you a seat with the governor in a luxury box made possible with tickets contributed by Ameriquest, a mortgage lender and $1.5 million donor to Schwarzenegger.

The governor said he looked forward to continuing negotiations with the legislative leaders on a variety of issues, declaring, "We have created a new mood in Sacramento.''
But Schwarzenegger quickly changed his tone when asked if the Nov. 8 special election would be a judgment on his record in office.
The election "is not a referendum on me. It's a referendum on the system, on the legislators,'' Schwarzenegger insisted. "Because I have only been around for two years, and I've turned the economy around since I've come into office.''
In contrast, the Legislature, he said, has "run up a $22 billion debt,'' and ruined the state's credit rating.

In all fairness, the Gub helped run the debt up a bit here of late, but the c"rats have had their little mitts in the cookie jar way too much the last few years as well, by FaR..
Will the proposed reforms take root?
we'll see what the voters think in November.
Lordy knows we need to rein in the spenders and cut the access to the public feeding trough,, or pay the piper as we travel down the toll roads of Socialist Utopia.
where's the consolidation of the commissions/boards ?
where's the other promised reforms ?
He will probably put it all on an initiative next year and let the people vote on it.
It's not my fault, blame them!
It's puzzling why Arnie isn't doing anything prior to Nov. 8.
------
It would really be interesting to know what he CAN DO without the approval (usually obstruction) of the socialist State Legislature. I don't think there is much. That is a big problem he is facing and why the voter-driven issues are important. In many cases it is the only hope for REAL CALIFORNIANS who want their state back from the socialists.
Central casting out did themselves w/ those pitiful characters...
thinking the voters will identify w/ 'em ?
blaming me
WAAAAAH
I'm sure Arnold's continued deficit spending has nothing to do with those credit ratings.
Are you serious???
Arnold went to the Liberal Think-Tank to get some advice... Touble is... then he got in the tank so deep, he just couldn't get out!!! Worse yet... he took all his supporters with him!!!
Anybody else hear that giant CAGOP tanking sound??? It's gonna end up where Jesse Ventura took the Deform Party!!! (They were co-stars in "Preditor," ya know)
I used to like that movie too but now I can't even watch it. I can't seem to watch any of his movies. Oh well, plenty of other action heros out there.
He keeps egging them on and they really appreciate it!!! Their own goons couldn't keep their troops this motivated!!! They are delighted with their incredible progress!!! Their cup runneth over and Arnold keeps pouring it on!!!
(NOT!!!)
Doesn't this sound like "True Lies?" Sure does to me!!!
Turn the economy around? Ahhhnold??? With his Sierra Socialist Commune? Not likely.
One wonders if it all isn't part of the great script. And outside the theatre, we are all pulled leftward...
I choked on that one too.
Kind of like a crapshoot, isn't it. I hate the way they wrote this measure; I think it is bad law and there were so many better (and easier) solutions. But I may end up voting for it as well.
That appears to be the essence of it, but a crapshoot is better than a rigged wheel any day.
