Arizona and New Mexico are under a state of emergency Friday night. The governors of both states made the declaration to free up money to increase Mexican border patrols. It is an effort to fight illegal immigration.
Illegal immigrants in Nevada say it's only a matter of time before a similar state of emergency is issued here. They fear being thrown out of the country, unable to make money from jobs they find here in the states.
Illegal immigrants in southern Nevada believe it's only a matter of time until authorities here crack down on them. Here in the valley, day jobs for illegals are starting to dry up. There's time when there's work and there's time when there's not.
The states of emergency in New Mexico and Arizona may have a dramatic effect on the influx of illegals into Nevada. Many cross the Mexican border into Arizona and then travel, or are smuggled up Highway 93 into Las Vegas and beyond. Nearly all are looking for opportunities to make money. "We only want to work we don't do anything wrong. If they hire us fine if they don't they don't."
This 2003 federal homeland security report guess-timates over 101,000 illegal immigrants live in Nevada. A UNLV study asserts illegals contribute 16 billion a year to our local economy.
"It's quite evident we have to focus our efforts, our priorities, our resources on the greatest risks." Russ Knocke with federal homeland security tells Eyewitness News, the current approach of trying to dismantle human smuggling rings is the way to go hoping to stop potential terrorists from entering the country.
But Arizona and New Mexico declaring these emergencies may force the government's hand to once again target illegal alien clusters in large American cities, like Las Vegas. "We intend to work as closely as we can based on the needs of the states."
The increasing risk and the increasing debate has some illegals thinking twice about having come here in the first place. "We wait here for awhile. If we don't find work we go back to Mexico." But until a crackdown begins, these men will continue looking for work, day-by-day, dollar-by-dollar.
A spokeswoman for Governor Kenny Guinn says there are no current plans to issue a State of Emergency for illegal immigration here. Eyewitness News has learned that next week the federal Department of Homeland Security will meet in Washington to discuss illegal immigration measures along the Mexican border.
I'm having trouble understanding how 101,000 illegals can contribute 16 billion a year to the economy of Las Vegas."
I think when they say "contribute" they mean the money they save by hiring illegals.
So if illegal alien labor results in an $800 billion profit, why do the illegals only send $20 billion back to Mexico per year? Gosh, that's really considerate of them, innit?
But it doesn't in fact or in theory. That's just anti-immigrant myths.
As long as someone is working for at least minimum wage it is none of the government's nor your business.
That's the same argument y'all use against Wallmart and they don't hire illegals.
Federal law prohibits immigrants from participating in government assistance programs except WIC for the first five years they are here.

1) "Cheap Labor" is anything but cheap.
2) If two entities enter into an agreement and there is an element of illegality, the contract is null and void.
Wanna break a bank ... a hospital emergency room ... a government there Bayou? Will you sign?
BWAAAAAAAA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!

Yeah, "Federal law prohibits" lots of things that still go on every day. So what?
Illegal laborers contribute $800 Billion to our GDP according to the Business Week article posted las week.
Then why do they only send $20 billion of that back to Mexico each year? Since it's their money to do with what they please (and it's "none of our business" what they do with it), why don't they send it ALL back?
It is our business if they earned that money illegally using fraudulent documents or under the table tax free. As it is they don't even belong in the country and those who are hiring them will pay just as soon as we elect the right people. And that day is coming very soon.
If they're keeping the other 90 percent, they can afford to move into mansions and gated communities, so why do they stay in slums with 15 or 20 people in a garage or one-bedroom apartment?
Correct, provided that the employee is not an illegal alien. If the employee is an illegal alien, then it becomes the government's business.
Federal law prohibits immigrants from participating in government assistance programs except WIC for the first five years they are here.
Illegal aliens can use the same fraudulent documentation that they used to get their jobs to sign up for welfare and food stamps.

There's nothing special or magical about illegal alien workers. If legal immigrants filled these jobs, they would be the ones contributing this $800 Billion (if accurate) to our country's GDP.
That's President Bush's objective. Do you support his reforms?
Obviously the 101,000 figure is deliberately underestimated. The true figure is probably 1,101,000. That's more like it.
Accurate description.
Can't help but notice how that touched a nerve with a certain poster when it was mentioned.
The shoe must have fit!

"Perhaps you meant to say "illegal aliens?" "
Tancredo opposes the Denver library having books in Spanish because it might encourage "illegal" Hispanics to use the library.

The anti-illegals crowd is neither Christian, pro life nor evangelical. They are anti-family values, anti-medical care for babies, anti-education of children, anti-Catholic Church, and pro abortion.

NO!
The statistic you use to "prove" I lied did not even mention "illegals", it only addressed "immigrants". Furthermore there was no link to a source. If that's your idea of "proof" I can understand why you accept the immigration myths without question.
"Bayourod lies about illegals and crime "
I said nothing about "illegals" and crime. What I stated and what you claim you disproved was that the California crime rate was at a 35 year low. That fact stands. All you did was present a bunch of totally irrelevant numbers.
I get the impression that you are about twelve years old.

Personal insults and innuendo. Is that how your parents raised you to behave? Is this the legacy you chose to leave for future generations?
Is this the five-minute argument, or the full half hour?
