Iran, Venezuela Discuss Oil Embargo
Vermont Guardian ^ | August 19, 2005

"Oil is the lifeline of the West, and most of the West's military industries are dependent on it,” the Tehran Times suggested in an editorial last week. Irritated by a recent resolution by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that called for a halt to Iran’s uranium conversion program, the newspaper suggested that oil-rich states form a united front and use oil as a tool to confront "western neocolonialist countries."

In Venezuela, Pres. Hugo Chavez has taken the idea a step further, threatening to halt oil exports if alleged attacks on his country continue, according to Agence France Press. Appearing last week as a witness at a symbolic “anti-imperialist court” in Caracas, Chavez said, “Washington’s molestation may cause more serious problems; our two oil tankers going to the U.S. everyday may go to another country.” He added that the “Northern America market is not compulsory for us.” Venezuela exports 1.5 million barrels of oil to the United States daily.

According to the Islamic Republic News Agency, the Iranian newspaper’s editorial described oil as “the most potent economic weapon for settling scores,” and suggested an embargo on oil sales to the United States and European countries that are pressuring Iran to end its nuclear program. It also criticized what it sees as a double standard, noting that Israel, Pakistan and India have nuclear weapons, and that most of them have conducted tests.

In an interview with an Israeli TV station from his Texas ranch, Pres. Bush expressed doubts that the European Union’s diplomatic initiative to defuse the crisis over Iran’s nuclear activities would succeed, and refused to rule out the use of force. "All options are on the table," he said.

Israel has been prodding Washington to get tougher, charging that Iran resumed its nuclear activities because it sensed the "weakness" of the international community. "Iran made this decision because they are getting the impression that the United States and the Europeans are spineless," a senior official from Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's office told Agence France Press.

The IAEA’s resolution expressed "serious concern" at Iran's resumption of uranium conversion and set a Sept. 3 deadline for its report on the country’s compliance. “We want diplomacy to work,” Bush commented, “and, you know, we will see if we are successful or not. As you know, I'm skeptical."

The higher the price the less they have to sell to make the same amount of money...sounds like a great deal for them..

And their business partners here in the USA...

Alleged attacks on Venezuela? When did this happen? Is this what Chavez tells the kool aid drinkers there?

How do you figure that? If we decided to stop buying their oil where would we get our supplies? And, China would buy up every drop we don't with all the money we send there.

Chavez calls for UN reform, justice in the world

Regional-Venezuela, Politics, 8/16/2005

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Monday condemned what he said the continuation of occupation of Iraq and the US polices and plots to control the world.

"The best way to enable the United Nations to actively assume its role is achieving fundamental reforms in the organization," Chavez told leaderships of the delegations participants at the16th World Festival for Youth and Students during a meeting, held in Caracas. He stressed impossibility of realizing the real peace in the world without achieving justice and equality among peoples.

He underlined the importance of the continued work among the youth to "challenge capitalism and imperialism through deepening awareness, enhancing the relations and activating communication among them" to reach a balanced and multipolar world prevailed by social justice and equality among peoples.

Chavez called the youth for setting up permanent bureau for them in Venezuela to start communication among them, and to put programs and plans for making continuous review in a way to achieve the desired goals.

At the end of the meeting the Venezuelan president raised the Palestinian flag amid applause and shouting of attendances in support of the Palestinian cause and Palestinian people's struggle against the Israeli occupation.

He is kinda like old Saddam, who relied upon the French/Germans and the Russians to protect him from the mean evil US.

Putin is up to something, I read he is to host the G8 Summit next year and he plans for it to be about Energy.

Then again, if push comes to shove, if Chavez cut
off US oil sales, the US could cut off *all* of
Vwnezuelas oil sales...And then wait a few months
or more..Chavez will be lucky to end up with
Noriegas fate...a two bit dictator in a common
criminals cell, until he dies of old age.
