Now You Sheehan, Now You Don't
Wall Street Journal, Opinion Journa ^ | 19 August 2005 | James Taranto

Posted on 08/19/2005 4:29:51 PM PDT by Lorianne

Our confidence in the evanescence of Sheehanoia looks to have been well founded. Cindy Crawford--sorry, Sheehan--left Crawford, Texas, yesterday to deal with a family emergency:

Sheehan . . . said her 74-year-old mother suffered a stroke. Sheehan said she and her sister were going to Los Angeles "to assess the situation" but that her supporters will continue her protest outside Bush's Texas home.

"If I can, I'll be back. If I can't, I won't be back. But I will be back as soon as possible," Sheehan told reporters outside "Camp Casey," the protest site named for her son.

We're guessing Sheehan won't come back, and even if she does, who cares? Cindy's here! Cindy's gone! Cindy's back! Fenton Communications, the left-wing PR firm that has been flogging the Sheehan story, put out a press release this morning titled "Cindy Sheehan Requests Privacy." Although this request reflects not a small amount of chutzpah, it's likely that the press will comply. Reporters can't possibly be both bored enough and creative enough to keep this story going.

Mrs. Sheehan has been through a lot in the past year and a half: the loss of her son, the collapse of her marriage, a two-week stint as the Most Hated Woman in America, and now her mother's serious illness. Any of these on its own would be highly stressful, but all four together have got to be brutal. That the second and third items on the list resulted from her own actions makes it clear that Mrs. Sheehan does not cope well with emotional difficulty. We hope she gets whatever help she needs to achieve some semblance of balance.

What a cowardly hag she is. She knew the masses coming to Crawford on the 27th and skedaddled.

"a two-week stint as the Most Hated Woman in America"

How true. And the libs are too stupid to realize it. I loved every minute that Crazy Cindy spoke. No wonder her unfavorable ratings exceeded her favorable ratings (not a good showing for a 'grieving' mother).

Also, her virulent anti-Semitism could no longer be hidden from a national audience. ABC would not take it too well if she continued to say that her e-mail had been doctored.

I look forward to the day when all the MSM start acting like news reporters they are supposed to be put out the real cindy. Not the mother cindy cr@p.

Until that day happens, I won't be holding my breath. :-)

I'm sure many of the lefties involved saw diminishing returns and perhaps a downside down the road. But without an exit strategy what were they to do? Now that Cinds is away on a personal matter I bet she is being "advised" to express herself not in Crawford but elsewhere.

If you noticed her putting her legs up on one of the guys at the "Peace House" more than a few times, I don't think her son Casey was the only reason she was in Crawford. No self-respecting grieving mother would do that sort of thing, especially in public with hundreds of "news" cameras around, IMO.

It would've been more effective for them if they had pulled this protest in DC the day he left town and continued it until he came back.

uh, kcvl? Her behavior (with her feet up on the knees of a reflexologist or masseus, or friendly soul) is not unusual for a Bay Area Californian. At our malls, we have chairs where you can get a 10, 20, 30 minute massage (in public), focusing on a particular body part (back, foot, shoulders, arms, head). I never did one of these. I prefer the mud bath or hot tub, sauna and THEN the massage. :)

I thought the same thing--according to Griff from the Tony Snow Show (Griff was in TX earlier this week reporting on the moonbats) this guy was Mr. Foot Massage. Sure.

She wasn't getting her feet massaged by a "friendly soul". We have the same thing in our malls plus several day spas. We actually wear shoes too. California isn't the only place to get mesaages.

A grieving mother doesn't stick her legs up on a man she has just met from a "Peace House" in Crawford, Texas with cameras rolling if she has any respect for the memory of her son. But we already know she obviously doesn't have respect for anyone.

She has a daughter who is turning into an alcoholic, a son begging her to come home and a husband who is obviously fed up with her since he just filed for a divorce.

I did miss your point -- about the grieving mom and then sticking legs up on a man she has just met, for a massage.

And, the reason I missed your point? Is because the point that she isn't a grieving mom is already so abundantly made clear. The fact that she is doing a zillion PR interviews in re the ideology of the liberals, in my mind, has long passed moved her OUT of the category of "grieving mom". I put her "foot massage" right up there with her make-up-artist-sessions for the cameras.

Cindy will hit the hustings with Hill in '08. Before that she'll have 'speaking engagements', etc. in order to keep her in the limelight. Her entire life is out of whack. She is definitely neurotic. 'Neurotic' has fallen out of favor as a way to describe nutjobs, but one of NPR's interviewees used it the other day, so I guess it's okay.
