Flint (08/18/05)--Cindy Sheehan's mission to meet with President George W. Bush has been gaining national attention.
And a local woman who also lost her son in Iraq is supporting her message for peace here at home.
Lila Lipscomb's son Michael Pederson was one of the first soldiers to die in the war. Since his death, she's been in a movie and written a book -- hoping, like Sheehan, her voice will be heard.
It's called Chasing the Truth -- a simple name for a book that has a complicated mission. But it's all helped her heal during her time of loss.
Sheehan represents the nearly 2,000 mothers who have lost a child in the war with Iraq. The pain of the loss is the same.
"It's still just raw because I know exactly where those mothers are today when they get that knock on the door," Lipscomb said.
But in some cases their message for peace is different. Sheehan wants Bush to pull United States troops out of Iraq. In the years since her son's death, Lipscomb's position has changed a bit.
"I still want to pill the troops out," she said. "I'm just saying we need to be strategic on how we do that.
"I want my troops home. I still think this war was caused from no weapons of mass destruction and I still believe there was no cause for us to go to war.
"But now we are there. My son is dead. We have to come together as a nation."
Lipscomb, who is no stranger to the spotlight, says she's is in a different place than when she spoke in Michael Moore's anti -Bush, anti-war film "Fahrenheit 911."
In fact, she's written a book about her quest called "Chasing the Truth." It's a commentary on the war in Iraq and the changing character of America.
"All of this has helped me deal with my son's death," she said. "Everything I've had to do go through. For me it was finding my voice and being able to share my story."
And she says she's glad Sheehan has found hers. Lipscomb also hopes to meet the president someday. She has a lot of questions, and she hopes her book helps pave the way.
"It's not an attack on the president," she said. "That's not what I'm about. I'm not about attacking. I'm about finding the truth and that's why I'm chasing it."
Lipscomb is looking for a publisher and agent for her book. And of course it is dedicated to her son.
Indeed, this isn't about Mrs. Sheehan at all..
I'm writing this to point out how POORLY written this piece....
Sheehan represents the nearly 2,000 mothers who have lost a child in the war with Iraq. The pain of the loss is the same.
This Taryn Asher from ABC 12 in Flint is a pathetic excuse for a reporter, simply pathetic. Her on bias' shine right through, throughout this whole piece about Lipscomb... it's tasteless. NO, Sheehan does not represent nearly 2,000 grieving mothers. NO, they are not *CHILDREN* -- these are grown men and women -- the best and the brightest men and women in America.
Before we can ever hope to have an honest discussion about this we all have to be speaking the same language, the same vernacular if you will. All of the hyperbole coming out of Crawford, "Live From the Ditch!" and from articles like this one do nothing but cripple the ability for people to get a grip on the real deal. I'm sure this is a purposeful end result by Taryn Asher and the thousands of writers that work at AP, Reuters and around the country...logging stories just like this one.
I'm willing to talk about how the war is being run, indeed anything about it... sans hyperbole and bogus conspiracy theories. The problem is -- the left in this country are incapable of having a legitimate conversation about it.
And what movie was she in? Fahrenheit 9/11.
She can't possibly be politicizing this, can she?
No, she does not. She would like to...but the truth is, Ms. Sheehan represents only herself...and those who are enabling and funding her...and all of their views, including Ms. Sheehan's, are horriblyanti-American and hatre filled, lending support to the very epople who killed her son, and abject oppostion to what her son fought and died for.
They **have** to run this story - else suffer rocket propeled filoffal attacks from New Faluja nearby. (detroit)
So she wants to drug the troops, how nice of her.
Huh????????????/
This is the MSM trying to keep the story alive using a pinch hitter. (how dare sheehan's mother have a stroke!)
There is no room for sympathy for these sympathy whores.
"And what movie was she in? Fahrenheit 9/11."
Yep, she pulls the same stunt as sheehan does in it.
How come when a 19 year old smokes the President's pole she is an adult, but , when they volunteer for the military, they are children?
Flint - Flint why does that word sound so familiar? Oh Yeah! Michael Moore! Is this his Sister also born stupid!
I laughed out loud at your phrasing... funny stuff!
What will Cindy do when she returns and finds someone in her spotlight?
Michael Moore is actually from "Lilly White" Davidson.
They make me ashamed to live in Michigan.
there haven't been 200 deaths yet have there? and saying that sheehan speaks for them is like saying stabhernow speaks for all michiganders.
