I live in TX, and you are correct. I call it the land of biblical plagues-rabies, fire ants, west nile, chaga's rattlesnakes, hanta, dengue, killer bees, scorpions..and of course, the elusive chupacabra.
I'm sure I'm forgetting some of the things in my litany of Texas plagues. (I gave up using it on yankees years ago-they just wouldn't listen to all the reasons to NOT move to Texas).
This? I ain't movin' to Texas.

Geeze, do you think you can keep all those diseases on "your" side of the border? I don't want it in NM. LOL
Unfortunately, you can add whooping cough to the list. We had a little baby die from it a few months ago. It's so bad that state health officials have recommended ALL school children have another whooping cough booster shot. It WAS completely eradicated until it was brought up from south of the border.
