Raleigh - Congressman Walter Jones said Thursday he has about 50 co-sponsors on a joint resolution that calls on President Bush to announce by year's end a plan for withdrawal from Iraq.
The resolution introduced in June by Jones, another Republican and two Democrats calls on the president to begin executing the withdrawal by Oct. 1, 2006. It does not set an end date.
"I think that people have finally understood what we're doing," Jones said after a meeting at the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, noting that people have mistakenly thought the resolution was binding.
The initial resolution sponsors are Ron Paul, R-Texas, who voted against the war, and two Democrats who have opposed it, Reps. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio and Neil Abercrombie of Hawaii. Jones said the new supporters include five Republicans.
It is the first such resolution put forth by lawmakers from both parties, although an overwhelming number of Democrats and six House Republicans voted in 2002 against sending troops to Iraq.

Yes! If that's what it takes!
This is obvious.
I think it's called folding like a cheap lawn chair.
War was declared on us! Should we wait for another attack to see if they really mean it?
Then share your source.
So they line up RINO's and Dems to wave the white flag. Gee, what a shocker!
AP... ::shaking head::
Do you take us for fools? RINO's are unprincipled cowards and Dems have no soul. Talking about the political class here. Their position is NOT a marker of growing support no matter how hard you try. Voinovich breaking in tears and Hagel being featured on al Jazeera are, again, not signs of growing support except among the terrorists that may wish to contribute to their campaigns.
The President isn't folding and you can't break him. That was a main reason for re-election. The fact we knew he wouldn't cut and run no matter what mud you threw, yet you refuse to believe the last five years. The history of those years would tell you that he cannot be bullied into retreat and it would tell you Dems and RINO's are not representative of this country.
Go away. Go spend your time in other pursuits. Like answering questions as to why never good news is reported out of Iraq considering our troops there on the ground are disputing your 'reports'.
Well....you better tell Rumsfeld because he has openly stated that the U.S. cannot kill every member of the enemy. Rumsfeld is too much of a realist to believe otherwise.
OK who left the screen door opened? Look what came in to buzz around the light.
How about this for the plan back to Congress - we'll leave when we are done!
And thanks for telling me what your "rights" as "an American" are- I have no doubts that the founding fathers also would have been adamant that you shall not be prevented from peeing in your pants over the situation we are in, and it is dead certain that the Constitution guarantees your right say how much you support the troops while pig-piling on the very mission they are tasked with.
Is that you Pollyanna?
I don't think you got my point. This pulling resources from Al Qaeda is just DNC talking point nonsense. Give me a break.
Why don't you just get a burka for your women now..if we give up you will be answering to "Allah" in a few years. Have you practiced your kneeling yet?
Bull feathers!
My nephew is serving there. He would never agree to your bull about quiting. We have our freedom at stake. Freedom is not free..have some backbone man.
Death comes for us all. I'm just glad, for us ...it comes with FREEDOM.
