This one dragged a hog carcass off, and had great prints in fresh snow. I have seen cougar tracks in New Mexico before, and that was what it was. Well, it's certainly possible. I suspect there are many more here than anyone ever sees. Might even give some competition to the dang coyotes.

Dad thinks it was "Just passing through". He took some pictures of the tracks, and you can see the tail drag very clearly. Also, there where no claw marks (like a dog), and the stride was bigger than an bob cats by far.
The coyote numbers are down, alot, back home. That might be do to mange more than anything else though.
Where I hunt, we haven't seen any tracks were we can say "Yep, that is a cougar!", but I have heard plenty of stories over coffee of people hearing the howls.
So far, it hasn't come back. But Dad walked to the barns at night with a rifle for a while.
