ahh yes... the zone alarm.. i wish i could help you. I have had lots of problems with that firewall and use a different one as a result. I hope someone here can help. When I encounter problems I always resort to the good 'ol format c: and install fresh. :D always does the trick for me.
An option...
Buy a new drive and reinstall w2k.
Make you old drive a slave and salvage what you can.
sounds like you may have taken a hit from the latest worm. Best of luck to you.
I would get a Macintosh, because it's a fool-proof system.
That sounds like a good plan to me...
ZoneAlarm nailed me once. It wouldn't let my computer fire up. I had to reformat my drive and do a complete reinstall of windows. I took ZoneAlarm off. Good luck! Hope you have better luck then I did.
You just got the latest worm. Go to your AV site for instructions ...
Personally, I'd recommend dumping Windows for Linux or getting a Mac Mini. I'm partial to Slackware Linux, myself.
I pinged Golden Eagle and Bush2000 as they are the resident defenders of Windows products (or, at the very least, proficient bad-mouthers of other operating systems) in these parts.
No such thing. There will always be a "new and improved fool" that can outwit even the best machines. ;-)
To get into the Windows 2000 / XP Safe mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.
Trouble Getting into Windows 2000 or Windows XP Safe mode - If after several attempts you are unable to get into Windows 2000 or Windows XP safe mode as the computer is booting into Windows, turn off your computer. When the computer is turned on the next time Windows should notice that the computer did not successfully boot and give you the safe mode screen.
Note: With some computers if you press and hold a key as the computer is booting you will get a stuck key message. If this occurs, instead of pressing and holding the "F8 key", tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu.
Can you boot DOS? If you can boot to DOS, delete the file from the DOS prompt. You will need to enter the path by hand.
C:> delete c:\(put full path here)\filename
Get aback up of yourimportant files if you can. Reinstall wind(bl)ows and start over.
Gotta tell ya, I used to rib a lot of folks I knew for using "Macintoys"...but then I got myself a Mac Mini to complement my hardware/OS lab and I have to say it's a pretty tidy package. The price was right, the system speed and features are more than acceptable, and the graphics capabilities are quite good. But best of all, direct access to the BSD command line. (Big selling point for me.)
I tell ya...if Steve Jobs gets serious and puts the MacOS X on Intel, he's going to give Microsoft a serious run for its money.
If this fails to work format the drive and reinstall your stuff.
Do you have any Idea how un-helpfull that is?
Me: I need an air-filter for my Ford Taruss
You: You should have bought a Chevy.
When someone asks for help, you either give it or STFU.
Its not the time to berate them for their choice.
On the off chance your comment was in jest, I appologize in advance.
I don't think its the worm. I ran Norton Anti-virus about 24 hours ago with the latest defs (took a measely 394 minutes to examine 2,000,680 files). No this isn't a virus, its a corrupted dll, that is variously 74.8 KB, 72.7 KB, or 78.5 KB depending on what part of the properties dialog box you're looking at.

The problem with the Mac for me has always been the fact that everything (hardware, software) is +25% more expensive than the Windows version.
(plus Job's politics!)
