Authorities in Jefferson County announced Wednesday morning that a new task force comprised of 17 police officers is taking over the investigation of a missing pregnant woman last seen Sunday evening.
Lt. Col. Steven Meinberg said the task force met for the first time at 8 a.m. Wednesday. The announcement was made at morning press conference that was supposed to be held at the main meeting room of the sheriffs office. The briefing had to moved outdoors, because the task force has taken over the meeting room to accommodate officers assigned to the unit from five other Jefferson County police agencies.
Meinberg said officers from Crystal City, Festus, Herculaneum, Hillsboro and Pevely have joined the task force. He said the unit is contact with the FBI, but that the federal agency isnt actively involved in the investigation. The task force is headed by Lt. Tommy Wright, the head of the detective bureau at the sheriffs office.
Amanda Jones, 26, of Pevely, was last seen at the horse-show grounds of the Hillsboro Civic Center on Highway 21 in central Jefferson County about 5 p.m. Sunday. Police found Jones unlocked car at the civic center but said it offered no clues as to her

Thank you for posting this update.
There is a vigil scheduled for tonight (Sunday) at 6pm at the civic center/horseshow grounds.
Jefferson County police tell NewsChannel 5 that the girlfriend of the man Jones went to meet last Sunday has hired an attorney. They continue to follow up on over 150 leads in connection with the disappearance.

Prayers from Iowa, babys father needs a polygrapgh test? Never know...
Oh my gosh, he has a girlfriend? Thanks for the update!
Thank you for your prayers for Amanda.
I agree he needs a polygraph and more. But law enforcement won't call him a suspect or even a person of interest...
Maybe they should stop calling it a missing persons case and after a week finally consider it a criminal investigation, should'nt they have already concluded that she did'nt just walk away from "EVERYTHING!" especially her car(from the last place she was last seen "By Him"),little girl, job and family. Hello!!! Something is just not right... I heard that the copters had infared body heat censors on them, really whats that going to do... do they think someones hiding her, or she's hiding...OK?
Regarding the search with infrared at night...apparently the process of decomposition emits heat...
Rich or Poor it's been all over the news here, I hope everything turns's out o.k. but the longer it takes to find out the truth the more gut wrenching it is to the family, I'm sure but just could'nt imagine. I wish I could do more to help out or at least speak my mind. Hope to see the lastest updates here soon. Seems like the cops are being very careful who they are pointing the finger at...I'm sure his lawyer knows exactly the right things to say to protect him. Why else would he need a lawyer. It's just to bad they have'nt found any substantial witnesses.
Decomp hmm.. did'nt think of that. Did he show up at the visual? Since it is his child.
I doubt it, Mandigirl. He didn't want anything to do with her or his son.
That's it and then add his possible 'connections' - his brother was a former state trooper. Now he isn't a suspect, no search warrant.
A 9-month pregnant woman doesn't take off. She had everything ready for the baby, bless her heart. Her daughter is probably anxiously awaiting for the arrival of her new baby brother. Just damn!
Reminds me of the 'Barretta' case. Dinner first (excuse) then......
His official response to that, by way of his lawyer, was that he doesn't know if it's his child or not.

Now, the FBI has joined in the search for Jones, providing technical support to local searchers, according to Jefferson County Sheriff Oliver "Glenn" Boyer, who appeared on ABC News' "Good Morning America Weekend Edition."
"We haven't given up hope," Boyer said. "We're continuing to follow up in excess of 100 different leads."
Father of Unborn Child Not a Suspect
Jones last was seen at the Pevely Hillsboro Civic Center, where she was to meet Bryan Lee Westfall, the father of her unborn child.
The sheriff's office found Jones' blue Pontiac unlocked in the parking lot, but no clues as to her whereabouts.
"She left church and gave her mom and her baby a hug, and said, 'I'll see you in a couple of hours,' " said Jones' father, Hubert Propst.
Westfall has cooperated with police and currently is not a suspect.
But Jones' parents think otherwise.
"Do I hold this man responsible?" Hubert Propst said. "Yes I do."
Nevertheless, Boyer said Jones' disappearance remains a missing persons case, not a criminal case.
"We don't have any evidence that would support any criminal activity, either physical or statements from any witnesses," Boyer said.

Thanks show me!
Don't be silly, ladyjane. I didn't mean freepers.
The media will ignore this story because the missing woman is poor and it is in the midwest where they aren't.
They give little airplay to these situations, unless there are affairs, sex, drugs, or other salacious details involved to make it more "appealing" to the audience tuning in or reading about it.
What is the latest news, BizzeeMom?
I have no idea how the authorities can say they don't believe the man Amanda was meeting, is not a suspect.
I noticed in one of the articles that his girlfriend has hired a lawyer. Now why would that be?
Unfortunately nothing new to report. :( The sheriff says, and I agree, there are folks who have seen something and aren't reporting, for whatever reason.
I don't know how anyone could not have seen or heard something.
It almost seems like the authorities know more than they are saying, because they don't seem to be acting like there is any urgency.
(Or am I wrong?)
