Authorities in Jefferson County announced Wednesday morning that a new task force comprised of 17 police officers is taking over the investigation of a missing pregnant woman last seen Sunday evening.
Lt. Col. Steven Meinberg said the task force met for the first time at 8 a.m. Wednesday. The announcement was made at morning press conference that was supposed to be held at the main meeting room of the sheriff’s office. The briefing had to moved outdoors, because the task force has taken over the meeting room to accommodate officers assigned to the unit from five other Jefferson County police agencies.
Meinberg said officers from Crystal City, Festus, Herculaneum, Hillsboro and Pevely have joined the task force. He said the unit is contact with the FBI, but that the federal agency isn’t actively involved in the investigation. The task force is headed by Lt. Tommy Wright, the head of the detective bureau at the sheriff’s office.
Amanda Jones, 26, of Pevely, was last seen at the horse-show grounds of the Hillsboro Civic Center on Highway 21 in central Jefferson County about 5 p.m. Sunday. Police found Jones’ unlocked car at the civic center but said it offered no clues as to her

She disappeared from my town, and is a friend of a friend. She has a little girl, 4 years old, and my friend said there is no way she would have left without telling family where she was going.

Her parents seem to believe the father of the unborn baby had something to do with it.
The family is poor, so the story will probably not be given much attention.
Thank you for posting those. According to my friend, the second picture, where her hair is all blonde, is the more recent/accurate.
I think many folks around here find it hard *not* to think the guy had something to do with it....but innocent until proven guilty and all that.
The information I saw, indicated she is not from the town she disappeared from. The location for the meeting seems a little suspect (isolated, remote). Surely they are looking at the father of her baby, since he was last to see her.
Maybe they can look at video tapes of surrounding businesses for clues.
I pray they find her and her baby safe.

This baby was reportedly the consequence of a one-night encounter after a Christmas party. When she came up pregnant, she told him, and according to her friends, he wanted nothing to do with her or the child. That was why it was a little puzzling that he asked to meet with her Sunday.
The civic club/horseshow grounds are right along the main drag through town, so it's not terribly remote. But supposedly he was going to take her to dinner, so maybe she got in his vehicle and they went....somewhere else...?
I hope they investigate him closely too. I didn't know Greta had covered this, the more exposure it gets the better for Amanda.
