A university in Shanghai is offering China's first class on homosexuality and gay culture and several hundred students have applied for the 100 openings, a professor in charge of the course said Tuesday.
Professor Sun Zhongxin, one of the course's instructors at the prestigious Fudan University, said its introduction resulted from strong interest among undergraduates.
"I used to teach gender study for undergraduates and found they were very interested in the topic of homosexuality," Sun said.
The class is full, but "students are still applying," Sun said.

So China starts the long path to cultural oblivion. If gay culture takes root in the universities, then PC can't be far behind. This will lead to declines in engineering enrollment and their failure to take a leadership position in new technology. Perhaps PC will then infect the Peoples Liberation Army, forcing them to accept gay soldiers (no "don't ask, don't tell" in China) and they'll become a toothless tiger. Ah, the good things that flow from gay "studies"...

Makes sense, isn't there a tremedous imbalance in the male/female ratio due to the one child policy?

Seriously I'm not surprised. I know that traditionally (ie. since 1948) homosexuality has offically been non-existent. So obviously people are a little curious.

Well I see it as killing 2 birds with one stone. First, they have that pesky overpopulation problem, and the Communists realized that they just can't go gas a quarter of the population without getting a nasty letter from the UN. Also, PC is doubleplusgood (from the Commie perspective)

They are most likely learning how to ID a homosexual for termination/re-education at a later date.
Just as the islamic jihadist would do - but the muslims would educate THEN eradicate - no mercy given.

Rush is right. The best way to cripple our enemies is to export liberalism.

Hadn't thought of it that way. The difficulty of finding a partner of the opposite sex will make you turn gay.

I know that traditionally (ie. since 1948) homosexuality has offically been non-existent. I once had a Chinese immigrant in LA tell me that there simply were no homosexuals in China, that it was a Western phenomenon. Robert Mugabe, judging by his public remarks, believes that African homosexuality was imported from the West.

Yes, and its a world of happiness where bunnies frolick in the fields, and the extra large political dwarfs (stalinist propaganda line) are all thats keeping the joyful reunification between Taiwan and the Mainland.
Can't say I know how it is on the mainland for a fact, but there are plenty gays of Chinese extraction in the states. I just figured it to be the same in the people's utopia.

In the premodern era homosexuality (actually bisexuality in modern terms) was very widespread and acknowledged by Chinese civilization, so it's not really much of a surprise. The Chinese have never entirely adopted the Western mindset in this regard. Sexual behavior is not dichotomous in their perception. Sexuality is what you do, not what you are..

PS. And I mean the modern Western mindset (post 19th century). The premodern Western mindset wasn't much different either, in the sense that sodomy was also what one did, not what one was. It was not an identity; it was a behavior.
