What is to become of these homeless settlers? I read somewhere that the government had built a trailer park or something for those being "evacuated" (thrown out) of that one settlement in north Gaza. There was a story about a family who had built, with their own hands and with their own funds, a home in the one settlement, a four-bedroom home that was nicely appointed with well-kept grounds and gardens, being forced into a three-bedroom double-wide with half the space, parked on top of a sand dune. Sharon basically said to these people, tough cookies, start over. This to the father of the family in his late fifties who had worked almost 20 years to build his home in the settlement (ironically with the encouragement of the Israeli government at the time), as if he has another 30 years in him to rebuild what they had.
I don't know about you, but to me, it seems like a raw deal. I don't blame these people for feeling that their government has sold them out in a (probably) vain attempt to appease their enemies.

"Sharon basically said to these people, tough cookies, start over." Sounds suspiciously like "Let them eat cake" and you know what happened after that.

I don't think Ariel Sharon has appeasment on his mind. The guy is a brilliant military leader who has won against the odds many times in the past.
This pullout will lead to more violence from the arabs, not less. Sharon knows that. That will lead to the loss of UN support for Palestinian terrorism and justify a new Israeli hard line policy. The evacuation of the West Bank is temporary.
