Also, didn't the Gaza settlers contribute to Israel's economy and food supply? I don't see how concentrating the Jewish population, will do anything more than make it dependent on more outside support.

Israel made the decision that it wasn't worth the security headaches. Withdrawing from Gaza means a more defendable border. Possibly a new wall as well.

Yeah, I don't understand that part either. It's not like they have arable land to spare. Actually Gaza wasn't arable, they grew in greenhouses.
