"No excuse. What did the people shot have to do with that? For all we know they were Christians on their way to work in Tel Aviv."

Palestinians from Gaza can't get to Tel Aviv.

There are slim to no Palesinian Christians in Gaza, either.

Read today's Arutzsheva.com. The man was driving the Palestinians to work in an Industrial Zone -as he did every day. These were Arab workers. Perhaps he understood and spoke Arabic, as many Jewish Israelis do. Who knows what they were saying about murdering Jews? It doesn't matter. The driver snapped and committed an atrocity. Maybe he shot the ones who were gloating and joking about how the Jews are now on the run and what they are planning for the future. It's a possibility. It doesn't matter, since his killing unarmed Arabs on his bus was a disaster for the Arabs and the Jews.

"In the second case of Jewish terrorism since the beginning of August, two Palestinians were shot dead and three others were seriously wounded as a resident of the West Bank settlement of Shvut Rahel opened fire on them Wednesday afternoon near the Shilo Industrial Zone"

Why would they be reporting to work in the industrial zone, when the zone is being shut down???

This wasn't in Gaza.

I heard a caller (who identified himself as Jewish)to Michael Savage on Monday state that Sharon made a deal with leftists in Israel inorder to keep his son out of jail or to not be charged with some crime or other. And that this forcing the settlers out of Gaza was part of the deal. Savage indicated he had heard of this but did not elaborate....Do you know anything about this?

I don't believe it personally, but there have been several articles suggesting that, also noting the fact that it's virtually impossible to indict Sharon himself as a sitting Prime Minister, thus an incentive to bargain with Labor to keep his job. The fact of the matter is that since he ran on a platform opposed to leaving Gaza, sustaining his plan required an alliance with the left, irrespective of potential criminal charges.

This settler was a TERRORIST. He drove palestinian workers to a factory...got out....grabbed the gun from a security guard...shot up the bus killing 2...ran to the factory and killed another person. His aim was to disrupt the pullout mandated by the Government of Israel. He was hoping to influence the outcome of the pullout using VIOLENCE. A true definition of terrorism.

whatever it isn't it doesn't replace lives changed -psycholocial changes to kids and families-they aren't gettting a million bucks to go to the casino they have to REPLACE livliehoods and houses which aren't cheap-it means starting all over agin which isn't easy.

I was reading on another blog where a poster was commenting on the so-called "compensation", saying something like if these people are being offered $100,000-$300,000 to move, who in their right mind wouldn't? Well, what many overlook is that in many cases these people aren't just leaving their homes and the lives they've built (which is traumatic enough that it is hard to put a dollar value on that), but also businesses they have built up with their own sweat and labor over the course of decades, farms and gardens that produce their livelihoods. Throwing someone a pittance of a bone for a lifetime of labor is more like a slap in the face than "compensation".

But there will always be cold-hearted individuals who never will grasp the simple truth of the old saying, there are just some things that money can't buy. When you've labored for decades to built, with your own hands and the sweat of your brow, something from nothing, and then have someone come along and throw 30 pieces of silver at you and tell you to take it and be happy with it, well, I can see why one would be inclined to say, no thanks.

This is in the West Bank not Gaza. I don't think it's being shut down, yet.

"I doubt many will leave Israel. $150,000 to $300,000 as I understand it, depending on family and home size. Destinations vary. Individuals can relocate where they like. There are trailers and tents for those with no destination. Not much has been done for communities who wish to re-locate together as a group."

I firmly believe is that one goal is to destroy the COMMUNITY, community in terms of people not just their homes, that was built in Gaza. It's a leftists wet dream, and Sharon fell for it.

"It's a shame to see Israel's own home grown extremists, like the one who assassinated Yitzhak Rabin, are alive and ready to open fire."

Not to excuse his assasination, but keep in mind that Rabin was an extremist, too.

Please see this:
http://www.nysun.com/article/18710

The United Nations bankrolled the production of thousands of banners, bumper stickers, mugs, and T-shirts bearing the slogan “Today Gaza and Tomorrow the West Bank and Jerusalem,” which have been widely distributed to Palestinian Arabs in the Gaza Strip, according to a U.N. official.

The U.N. support of the Palestinian Authority’s propaganda operation in the midst of the Israeli evacuation of Jewish settlers from the Gaza Strip has provoked outrage from Israeli and Jewish leaders, who are blaming Turtle Bay for propagating an inflammatory message that they say encourages Palestinian Arab violence. ...

A special representative of the United Nations Development Program in the Gaza Strip, Timothy Rothermel, told Fox News that his office provided financial support for the production of materials that make up the Palestinian Authority’s propaganda campaign, timed to coincide with the Gaza pullout. The Palestinian Authority’s withdrawal committee developed and produced the posters and other items using U.N. money, Mr. Rothermel said.

In addition to the slogan “Today Gaza and Tomorrow the West Bank and Jerusalem,” many of the materials displayed the logo of the United Nations Development Program, which operates in 166 countries and spends about half a billion dollars a year.

Asked by a Fox News correspondent about one of the banners bearing the words implying an impending Palestinian Arab takeover of the disputed areas, Mr. Rothermel, said, “That particular poster was prepared by the disengagement office with financial support from the United Nations Development Program.”

UNDP officials at the United Nations headquarters in New York City, however, denied that money from the program went directly to the propaganda campaign.

A UNDP spokesman, William Orme, said his office gave money to the Palestinian Withdrawal Committee to “help the Palestinian Authority communicate to the populace about the withdrawal and its economic and social impact.”

The money was funneled to the committee through a subagency called Program of Assistance to the Palestinian People. U.N. officials were not told about the propaganda campaign or about the slogan, he said.

Then there's the casino deal...

THat is exactly the point: did he tell you what his hope was?

There is not a person among those people --- or anybody else for that matter --- that doubts the Israeli army WILL evacuate the settlers. Nobody thinks that he can reverse that decision at this point.

Further, even the dumbest terrorists prepare their attacks. This one did not. If he did, it would be easier for the killer to murder his passengers as he came to pick them up or after they started working. He killed them at a checkpoint where he ran the danger of being shot by Israeli troops.

Even simpler: the man HAD TO USE SOMEONE ELSE'S GUN. How many terrorists do you know that have ever done that?

Everything points to an act of desperation -- much like "going postal" in this country. Were those infamous mass murderers in our post offices also terrorists?

You are too quick to pin that label here, and I don't know why. Do you?

This is only the beginning of more bloodshed. Innocents will be killed from both sides. What a scummy thing to say --- you sound just like the leftist media!

You're being hysterical. Stop. Breathe deeply.....

Now, are you saying that there is no such thing as an innocent Palestinian? The original poster is lamenting that there will be chaos in which innocents on both sides will be hurt, regardless of whether Sharon's policy is right or not.

It takes a lot to be under siege forever. Israelis want to be loved by the world, especially the USA. My cousin's husband is a colonel in the IDF and he is often sent to D.C. to confer with officers of the US Army. He told me that they look at him with hatred. Antisemitism is not rare in the USA , it seems.

I don't blame these people for feeling that their government has sold them out in a (probably) vain attempt to appease their enemies

I don't think Ariel Sharon has appeasment on his mind. The guy is a brilliant military leader who has won against the odds many times in the past.

This pullout will lead to more violence from the arabs, not less. Sharon knows that. That will lead to the loss of UN support for Palestinian terrorism and justify a new Israeli hard line policy. The evacuation of the West Bank is temporary.
