I can't agree about race/ethnicity here, but..

A local moving company wanted to charge me $800 to the contents of my apartment into a storage building about 5 miles from my house.

Guess how much this will cost me if I hire some illegals? About $225.

Herein lies the flawed mentality that you are saving money. Shop around, there are plenty of bargains available without hiring illegals. You are feeding the fire by making the decision to 'save' money this way. When something turns up missing or broken, what are you going to do? It costs money to do business in this country period. Hell, you should see my Workman's Comp bill.

The hurricanes blew my roof off last year. The roofer replaced it with LEGAL immigrants. Still cost me $10,000.00. If one of them had been injured on the job, the roofer was fully insured. Blah, blah.... sorry for the rant.

Definitely tempting . . . but still illegal if you know these laborers are "undocumented".

I understand the immediate cost benefits to using illegal labor but the long-term economic impact is scary.

Put a help wanted ad up at a local high school or if a college is around put some there as well. I would say that you could either match or beat the amount of money it will cost you to move.
Two guys and a van moved my three bedroom home contains 45 miles for $125. Not only did they move me but also did all of the hookups as well.
Look around, there are a lot of people that will do the job for less.

I found a local moving firm several years ago that is made up of rotating volunteer men from a local church. They charge about half what other movers charge, and ALL of the money goes to their church. Citizens and then some, IMO.
