Arrest Made in Possible Terror Plot (for possible 24 S.Cal. locations)

FBI probe uncovers a list of potential Southland targets and suggests a connection between prison groups and Islamic extremists.

A Pakistani national has been arrested by authorities in connection with a far-reaching investigation of a possible terrorist plot targeting any of nearly two dozen locations in Southern California, including National Guard recruitment centers, law enforcement sources said Monday.

The suspect, identified as Hamad Riaz Samana, 21, of Los Angeles, was quietly taken into custody last week by counter-terrorism officials as part of a probe that began with the arrest of two men in Torrance suspected of robbing gas stations. The investigation, sources said, has involved more than 100 FBI agents and Los Angeles police detectives as well as counter-terrorism specialists with other federal and local agencies.

While little is known publicly about the JIS, as intelligence officials call it, the group has been around for several years and has a presence at Folsom State Prison, where one of the three men in custody, Levar Haney Washington, 25, served time for assault and robbery, according to law enforcement sources.

The JIS is only one of the prison-based groups being investigated for possible ties to Islamic extremists.

So much for rehabilitation. Sounds like prisons are becoming the recruitment centers for muslims.

I'd be interested in this "prison group" angle. I have my suspicions. For example, how many of these murderous lunatic scumbags are Muslim converts. Next, how many of these murderous lunatic scumbags are on "parole" (= get out of jail free cards)? Parole should be eliminated for all Muslims. EOS.

"But the documents allegedly recovered from Washington's apartment, sources say, strongly suggest the men may have been planning an attack that could have unfolded in a matter of weeks"

W-O-W! What if the robbers hadn't been caught?

Simply eliminate parole. We've done that in Virginia and it's worked wonders.

Prisons have been recruiting grounds for Muslem terrorists for some time now. I thought it was common knowledge.

What a perfect place to recruit terrorists though.
Men incarcerated with a huge chip on their shoulder against our society for the predictament they are in.

Hateful angry people need a cause too.

Prisons are ripe for the picking.

I remember Roy Innis sounding the alarm on this Muslim/Prison problem soon after Sept 11th.

The National Guard armories and recruiting offices are normally manned by only a couple unarmed people; and most armories have weapons storage for pistols, rifles, grenade launchers, and light/medium machineguns--great targets for terrorists.

Funded by Saudi's, and encouraged by most states. Approved at the federal BOP as well.

This is an article from the UK, but it probably applies to the US also.

Our prisons are fertile ground for cultivating suicide bombers

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,1072-1713671,00.html

TWO OF Britain’s bombers, Richard Reid and Muktar Said-Ibrahim, converted or reconverted to Islam in prison. This is a very small number, of course, but as we have just seen, it does not take large numbers of such people to effect a huge change in a country’s atmosphere. And the omens for the emergence of more of them are not good.

First, the number of Muslim prisoners has risen sixfold over the past 15 years. With more than 4,000 such inmates they make up 70 per cent of prisoners from minority groups. They are mostly of Pakistani descent, and the relative absence of people of subcontinental origin who follow other religions is equally striking.

Secondly, Islamic proselytising is prevalent in our prisons. An outside observer might conclude from the religious literature that he sees there that Britain is more an Islamic than a Christian country. I was often surprised on entering a cell in the prison in which I worked to discover a booklet with a title such as The Basic Teachings of Islam. More often than not, this will be the prisoner’s first experience of reading abstract principles.

I heard on tv news while working that Intelligence sources for Homeland Defense or was it Homeland Security stated that Gas Tankers are going to be used as suicide tankers before Sept. 19th in multiple areas in major cities acroos the US at one time.
The aim is to bring down the economy.

Maybe I read it here. Don't remember.
IMO when the threat is leaked it usually proves false.

One of them had worked in a duty-free shop at LAX and had no criminal record. Good thing they caught him.

Agreed. Ten years should be ten years. IMO, the parole system leaves in the mind of the criminal the perspective that, if caught, they might only serve a fraction of the actual sentence. If every burglar knew that they would serve ten years minimum, guaranteed, there would be far fewer burglaries.
