OLYMPIA, Wash. -- States are continuing to see their authority stepped on by the federal government, something that not only curtails their independence in dealing with such matters as elections and education, but in the case of a new national ID card, could cost them financially, according to a new report.
The REAL ID Act that passed in June as part of an $82 billion military spending bill requires states, by 2008, to verify whether license applicants are U.S. citizens or legal residents of the United States.

(And why do we have to wait until 2008 for it to be fully enacted?)

And there's a mention of Garrett's (NJ) bill in regard to limiting the new SC property theft ruling's impact, too.

Another ruse. Why don't they just forget about it. 2008? Real urgency, right? Well, of course, 2008 holds an election which ILLEGALS CAN VOTE - ALL THEY HAVE TO DO IS PROVIDE A FAKE LICENSE AND THAT IS CARTE BLANCHE TO VOTE (another Thank You to Bush One for that piece of legislation)...at least that is THE LAW at the present time. No one at a polling place can challenge their legal identity -- just amazing.
Who is kidding who?
ping!
"What we need is a National Monetary Card, thus no purchases if your not here legally, whether terrorist or otherwise."

Electronic numbers and ID cards are becoming more and more important as national and world solutions to ever-increasing and complex monetary and demographic problems . .
I'm on the side of state autonomy, but this act is well within the fed's power. States can do whatever they want with IDs and licenses, but federal agencies simply will not recognize any form of ID that doesn't comply. You could always get a passport.

One thing is for certain, the REAL ID ACT will create more government instead of less government. More bureaucracy instead of less, more prying government control of individual lives and privacy instead of less.
(I think there is a name for such a form of government.)
A strict and forbidden breach of the Republican Approach to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.
What is to stop the goverment with going on to the next 'numbering system' - namely implanting micro chips for ID and tracking purposes into the flesh of Americans?
Therefore, I support her 150%.
Great link on that BTW - thanks.
:~)
My state already requires proof of citizenship as of July 1, 2005. Let the complaining begin!!!

Agreed. And what will it do for our immigration and border quagmire?? NOTHING. The only thing that will fix that problem is (1) close the borders, (2) run out illegals or get them on a SELF-SUPPORTING WORKER PROGRAM and off the tax rolls.
So what is the REAL ID all about??? MAJOR SOCIALISM. And little else...just more pretending to fix the problem while only putting band-aids on the symptoms...who is kidding who???
Enforce the law, or STFU about wheather I come to a full stop at a stop sign!
NEVER has a government once it has taken the fundamental right of privacy away from it's citizens willfully given it back.

And since when does taking rights away from REAL U.S. CITIZENS fix the breaking of immigration laws by foreign invaders?? Specifically when your government WILL NOT LIFT A FINGER TO ENFORCE THE LAWS!!!
