Schism in Orange County Libertarian Party over Anti-War Resolution
Proposed Anti-War Resolution for adoption by California Libertarian Party
Be it Further Resolved, that the Libertarian Party of California Executive Committee formally petitions that the National Libertarian Party remain constant and adamant in demanding that the United States government cease and desist in the most safely expedient manner possible from all foreign economic and military interventions, Iraq in particular, and correct its international policies so that it may at last begin to facilitate world peace through the naturally benevolent function of the Free Market.
And be it resolved that upon passing the above resolution, Mark F. Murphy will take the last step in his total disgust of the Libertarian Party and register Republican and start the Libertarian Republican Caucus (different than the RLC).... or better yet, perhaps start the Libertarian-Republican Party (heck, there use to be a Democrat-Republican Party).

Date: Tue, 16 Aug 2005 00:38:07 -0700 To: LPC ExComm From: Allen Hacker CC: Subject: [LPC ExeCom] - RESOLUTION: Non-intervention, v. 3
Members,
Upon advice of friends, I have further edited my resolution. I have removed the final Whereas, as non-essential, and I have added mitigating language to the cease and desist demand in the final Resolve, to include the wording, "in the most safely expedient manner possible".
I amend and remake my previous Motion to ask that this Resolution replace the prior version (2) and be on the August 20th ExComm meeting agenda as a competing motion to any other war-related resolution(s).
I will bring hard-copy printouts to the meeting.
Thank you.
A Resolution by the Libertarian Party of California Executive Committee Affirming the National Libertarian Party Principles and Platform Concerning Foreign Intervention and the Invasion of Iraq
Whereas, the National Libertarian Party Platform's Preamble states in part, "As Libertarians, we seek a world of liberty; a world in which all individuals are sovereign over their own lives, and no one is forced to sacrifice his or her values for the benefit of others";
Whereas, the National Libertarian Party Platform's Statement of Principles states in part, "...we support the prohibition of the initiation of physical force against others....";
Whereas, the National Libertarian Party Platform at Part IV.D.2. (Foreign Affairs / International Relations / Foreign Intervention), states in part, "The United States should not inject itself into the internal matters of other nations, unless they have declared war upon or attacked the United States, or the U.S. is already in a constitutionally declared war with them," and, "End the current U.S. government policy of foreign intervention, including military and economic aid, guarantees, and diplomatic meddling";
Whereas the admittedly (by the President and Vice-president) pre-emptive ("before the fact") invasion of the sovereign nation of Iraq by the United States was accomplished in blatant disregard for American constitutional requirements and international law under treaties to which the United States is a signatory, and upon an apparently false basis of manipulated information and manufactured allegations;
Whereas the continuing military occupation of Iraq is precipitating a deplorable loss of civilian and American lives, is exacerbating American deficit spending, and appears to be aggravating the terrorist threat worldwide;
Now, therefore,
Be it Resolved, that the Libertarian Party of California Executive Committee hereby affirms the National Libertarian Party's Preamble, Statement of Principles and Platform, in particular for this case those portions cited herein; and
Be it Further Resolved, that the Libertarian Party of California Executive Committee finds, upon no tangible proof having been shown of Iraqi participation in the World Trade Center, etc. (9/11) attack, that the invasion of Iraq appears unwarranted; and
Be it Further Resolved, that the Libertarian Party of California Executive Committee finds that the continuing occupation of Iraq is inimical to the interests of the citizens of the United States as well as to the interests of the citizens of Iraq; and
Be it Further Resolved, that the United States government's declared purpose of "bringing democracy to Iraq" is an offensive imposition of the values of some of our citizens over a foreign sovereign people; and
Be it Further Resolved, that the Libertarian Party of California Executive Committee formally petitions that the National Libertarian Party remain constant and adamant in demanding that the United States government cease and desist in the most safely expedient manner possible from all foreign economic and military interventions, Iraq in particular, and correct its international policies so that it may at last begin to facilitate world peace through the naturally benevolent function of the Free Market.

Los Angeles Libertarians Pass Anti-War Resolution
At the convention of the Libertarian Party of Los Angeles County, held on the last weekend of July, members gathered to elect their officers, ammend their bylaws, consider whether to support a piece of legislation before state lawmakers, and, oh yes, consider one more matter: Whether they would officially take a stand one way or the other on the Iraq War. They did, joining a number of county organizations around California in passing an Anti-War Resolution.
Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) August 3, 2005 -- Libertarians convened at a restaurant meeting room in Hollywood for what might have been an otherwise uneventful, controversy-free glorified business meeting. Except for the little matter of war.
After much impassioned debate, the necessary two thirds of those gathered delegates, all members of the Libertarian Party, representing fellow residents of the sprawling County of Los Angeles, passed an Anti-War resolution. The resolution had been making its way through Libertarian Party county organizations throughout the state of California. It had been passed on to LPLAC (The Libertarian Party of Los Angeles County) by Northern Vice Chair of the Libertarian Party of California, Lawrence Samuels, a long-time activist for freedom and limited government from the Monterey-Salinas area.
While some of the Whereas's and Therefore's provided varying degrees of satisfaction to the delegates who wished to take a stand on the war issue, at the suggestion of LPLAC Chair, David Larkin, the Resolution went to a vote without attempt to amend, improve, or otherwise rewrite the motion.
The unaltered language is as follows: WHEREAS American foreign policy should seek an America at peace with the world, and conduct foreign policy upon the enlightened principles of non-intervention; WHEREAS the United States government should return to its historical libertarian tradition of avoiding entangling alliances, foreign quarrels and imperialist adventures, and recognizing the right to unrestricted trade and travel; WHEREAS the United States has intervened in the affairs of Iraq -- a nation that neither directly attacked nor threatened America -- our invasion of its sovereign territory is an attempt to impose our values over people in another land. Such overt hostilities are immoral and contrary to the principles of the Libertarian Party. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED we demand that the President and Congress act to end the occupation of Iraq. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Armed Forces of the USA have the full support of the Libertarian Party. We believe that the withdrawal of U.S. forces as quickly as possible will better ensure their safety and create a more manageable situation for the elected Iraq government to maintain civil order.
The convention delegates also supported, without dissent, an amendment to the California Constitution (submitted by State Senator Tom McClintock) to prevent abuse of the government's Eminent Domain powers.
No resolution was submitted denouncing the federal government's abuse of the Interstate Commerce clause.

I'm glad these people cannot get even 1% in a national election!
The Libertarians are coming out in support of the terrorists?
"The naturally benevolent function of free market" ?
Really ? The free market is benevolent ? What freaking planet do these people live on ? The free market embodies competition and natural selection. Neither is "benevolent". And I got news, too - the alternative, islamic model is FAR less benevolenet. It's neither free, nor market. It's more along the lines of "if you don't give me what I want I'll kill you".
I consider myself to be a Conservative (capital C) libertarian but only in an ideological sense. Politically I won't vote for libertarians because they put up NAMBLA members, prostitutes and strippers as candidates.
Pie-in-the-sky notions about immigration and defense are what keeps me a "small L" libertarian and voting mostly Republican (not that the Republicans have been behaving all that libertarian or conservative of late).
If these folks ever get a clue, that the rest of the world does not share our western, (classical) liberal ways, and would destroy us if given half the chance, then maybe they'll get somewhere. Until then, I don't think so.
I'm sorry here is the link below to the press release in L.A. County. Same anti-war resolution is now being pushed in Orange County resulting is threatened schism in party:

Don't forget blue guys:
I love the free market, but this is just funny.
I read a lot of Libertarian literature but the Libertarin Party USA is a freak show in many respects. Libertarians as a philosophy is interesting and I would be in support of many of it's ideas. But one has to seperate the freaky from the sane.
Not too many Libertarians in Orange County. Went to a few meetings and met Steve Greenhut and others in a few debates.
Most of OC supporting our troops and Bush and wanting to keep the fight over there -- not here -- so that is why so few libertarians get much traction in OC
Whether you're glad or not, it's stuff like this that keeps the official so called "Libertarian" party from getting more than 1%.
If the official Libertarian party weren't run by nutjob losers who spout off drek like this, they'd get more votes. But then again, without the nutjob losers who spout off drek like this, they wouldn't be such a bad party to have win a few elections.
Yes. Sure. That's the obvious conclusion to be drawn. Of course.
I hope you're not tasked with doing serious things like voting and driving.
Whereas, the National Libertarian Party Platform's Statement of Principles states in part, "...we support the prohibition of the initiation of physical force against others....";
I wonder how the Muslim Libertarian party did in the last Iranian election?
The problem lies in that there are two basic varieties of libertarians. There are the conservative "leave me alone libertarians" and there are the fuzzy brained liberal nutjobs who, while they can't stomach the rampant socialism of the democrats, are indistinguishable in every other way (like the so called eco-libertarians).
Guess which variety controlls the official "Libertarian" party?
"Be it Further Resolved, that the United States government's declared purpose of "bringing democracy to Iraq" is an offensive imposition of the values of some of our citizens over a foreign sovereign people"
Whose side are they on?
We have a military. Like it or not. You don't refuse to us the perfect tool for a job because you don't like the person who MADE the tool. You do the job, then worry about making better tools.
We either fight the terrorists/Jihadi's over there... or we WILL be fighting them in our own back yards. Saying we just shouldn't be there in the first place is a sign of a mental disorder.
They are either with us or against us, and they certainly are not with us.
Sometimes though, some people need a nudge in the right direction.
Also remember, the LP operates from a strict "non-initiation of force" principle. Where most of us pro-war libertarians differ is on who struck who first and what that response should be. We are the equivalent of "moral perverts" for wanting to kick a dictators ass in their eyes. I just see it as defense of human life against unjust agression.
