Gilbert News Concert to benefit girl needing liver By Daryl James, Tribune August 13, 2005 Professional entertainers from across the Valley will take the stage Monday in a benefit concert for Gilbert cancer survivor Haley Knutsen, 9, who now waits in San Diego for a lifesaving liver transplant.

Chandler music teacher Mary-Jo Okawa said lining up performers for the show has been easy.
"You would not believe the number of e-mails I’m getting," said Okawa, who taught school with Haley’s mom and had Haley as a student for three years. "It’s so inspirational to be part of this."
Among those rooting for Haley is the entire cast of "Beauty and the Beast" at the Herberger Theater Center in Phoenix. Okawa said nearly 40 cast members will give up their day off Monday and join the show she is staging at Chandler Center for the Arts.
Jody Light and the Shining Star Band will also perform, and a member of the comedy troupe The JesterZ will help Okawa emcee. The show will incorporate home videos of Haley singing to her younger brother.
Hundreds of others have also stepped forward to help Haley, who battled leukemia into remission about three months ago.
Arby’s customers filled the lobby and spilled out the doors Thursday night at a Chandler location hosting one fundraiser. Q-Zone Laser Tag in Gilbert also raised money, and hundreds of people have posted messages on Haley’s guestbook at www.hopeforhaley.com.

This child is a fighter, an inspiration, and a true hero at 9 years of age. She has been through so much in her life so far and after fighting and surviving 3 BONE MARROW TRANSPLANTS and now needs a LIVER TRANSPLANT IN THE NEXT 3 WEEKS, any prayers, cards, donations sent to Haley would be most appreciated.
I know my fellow freeps are some of the MOST COMPASSIONATE people around.

I know that the concert is over, but is was great!, and I can't link to an in-depth article the EAST VALLEY TRIBUNE has printed. If you go to her site, you can sign her guestbook, see Haley, and read about her story. There are other links there, that are helpful. Her famly has reached that "insurance cap" limit of 1.5 mil and hospitals won't do the transplant without around 100,000 to start. I believe that they need 300 to 500 for everything.
