Actually... a tsunami that is only a foot or three at sea, can be enormous when it finds shore.
We should know pretty soon whether there is any tsunami from this one. But it is the sort of thing that you just never know right away. It's not the size of the shake that is so important as is the *shape* of the movement.
Oh any tsunami would have already hit Japan some time ago.
