Former San Diego City Councilman Ralph Inzunza has been hired by the San Diego-Imperial Counties Labor Council to teach computer, math and language skills to low-income job seekers.
Inzunza began his job the first week of August, about two weeks after he and ex-Councilman Michael Zucchet were convicted of federal corruption charges and resigned from the council.
"We have a job and he can do the job very well," said Secretary-Treasurer Jerry Butkiewicz. "It seemed like a perfect fit."
Inzunza's new job, which pays $30,000 to $40,000 a year, was offered spontaneously by Butkiewicz during a lunch date the last week of July, he said.
"We didn't go to the lunch to talk about that. I said, 'Ralph, what are your plans? What are you going to do? When do you go back to court for sentencing?' And he said, 'I've got to find a job.' I said, 'That's pretty interesting. I have a job,'" Butkiewicz said.
Inzunza was the perfect candidate for the recently vacated position, Butkiewicz said, because he is bilingual, he has bachelor's and master's degrees in social services, and he has been an employer and knows what employers are looking for during interviews.
The Labor Council is extremely influential at City Hall.

San Diego, always trying to be like Chicago.
San Diego has always tried to not be LA, and now the city is worse.
When I heard this story this morning, it reminded me of an occasion in the 1970's. Jerry Brown, then California Governor, had decided State Agencies needed to be Unionized. (Unions now are extorting California's life bllod)
Labor Unions were given access to State buildings to make a 30 minute to 1 hour pitch for their union. In other words, that Office would become a part of Local ___of the AFL-CIO, Teamsters, Laborers, Etc.
The Teamster guy came and gave a 40 minute presentation, promising glowing benefits and protections.
After the presentation, he asked "are there any questions?"
This was in a CHP Office.
One Officer raised his hand.
Union Man--"yes".
Officer--"What does it feel like to be a part of Organized Crime?"
End of presentation.
Talk about your political payback. This lady is like an ATM machine for the mob. The union thugs pay for the recounts which eventually overturn the vote and allow her to come from behind months after the actual voting stopped. And then she turns around and hands them all the employees in the state that she can get her hands on. Gray Davis did the same thing in CA when he got into office. Its the most prima facia case of quid pro quo you can cite in the history of politics. Even Charles Keating had more dignity.
