Well Riccio's is the best pizza place in town I know of. But I assume DrewsDad is talking about some place across from one of the AMF lanes, since Park Lanes doesn't have a neighboring pizza place, and that big complex wasn't there ten years ago. There's nothing worth mentioning on the wrong side of South Blvd, at least not these days, and not across from that AMF -- so perhaps the AMF on Independence or North Tryon (before it splits into University City), though how one would cross Independence is a real question.
There's a nice little Italian place somewhere near that way, but I forget the name.
Near the N. Tryon AMF there is Carlo's Italian Restaurant & Pizza, plus Mellow Mushroom, which is one of several CLT locations and generally well-regarded, but partly for its large selection of beer.
It may have been Luigi's, but then again, this was more than 10 years ago, so who knows what has changed in that time.
