The prebate is far from a welfare program.

It is a good start on one. It would be the area where the social engineering would start. They would means test it, then probably increase the prebates gradually for those who still qualify based on their SOCSEC reported wages. Then they will start eliminating certain items from taxes and raising the taxes on the remaining luxury items. At some point they add the income tax surcharge back on the rich people, and on and on...

Politicians crave the power to buy votes, they will find a way.

Right and get a majority of voters mad at them for repealing their FCA sale tax rebate. Every legal resident means every legal VOTER, recieves the same FCA sales tax rebate.

Looks to me that would make an excellent way for any politician to commit political suicide.

When was the last time you saw Congress lower the personal exemptions and standard deduction on income taxes or make them means tested?

The FCA sales tax rebate is a sales tax equivalent for the personal exemption and standard deduction of the income tax system it replaces.

Removing or reducing the basic tax exemption from the majority of taxpaying VOTERS certainly is not finding a way to buy Votes in my political play book.

Anyone can suppose an infinite number of adverse hypothetical situations scaring themselves into inaction. I could assume tomorrow I will accidentally break my leg if I get out of bed therefore I should do nothing by staying in bed. That type of thinking does not resolve any problems. We can only go with the facts. We can only take action with what we know and not assumptions.

After gaining sufficient support to pass the FairTax bill into law, it will be a cold day in hell when those speculations you hope for come about.

There will instead be monstrous opposition to that sort of thing - and there'll be no 16th amendment by then, either.

How about coming back to reality?
