Yes, that indeed was a mistake, but one fixable today. It is not too late to annex most of the West Bank and Jerusalem as Israel proper creating defensible borders and retaining historical and biblical Jewish land.You realize of course that President Bush, or whoever might be in office, would sharply curtail US aid if Israel took such action, and no nation on Earth would support it, right?

What good is the aid if the string it's attached to is a noose?
The rest of the world doesn't care whether Israel exists or not, anyway. For most, it's existence is something of an inconvenience.
A country's existential policy is not a popularity contest. Just ask the US. It remains to be seen how this country will react to Israel asserting its sovereign rights.
It may have escaped your notice but Israel is already vilified around the world. Its called oil, not principles. Those who have principles will stand with the only free, humanitarian democracy in the region.
