Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad arranged a midnight procession before dawn on Monday to celebrate the beginning of the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza Strip and northern West Bank.
Palestinian witnesses said that dozens of masked gunmen joined the procession to express joy at the beginning of the withdrawal, which will last for several weeks.
The procession under the theme "celebrations of triumph" began at Palestine Square in downtown Gaza City and took to the streets as militants in jeeps drove all around the city.
The procession reached the square of the unknown soldier in Gaza City as militants waved weapons including rifles and homemade missiles and fired into the air.
Marchers shouted that the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation was an achievement of Palestinian armed attacks. Several militants kneeled on the ground to express thanks for what they called "the victory that our people achieved throughout their sacrifices."
Abu Mohamed, one of the group's armed commanders, told reporters that the procession was part of the Palestinian and Islamic Jihad celebrations for the Israeli withdrawal and evacuation of settlements.
"The withdrawal of the enemy from part of our occupied territories is a big defeat to the Zionist enemy that is withdrawing under the strikes of Palestinian militant groups," said Abu Mohamed.
He said that his fighters "would never drop their arms unless the occupation ends in all the occupied Palestinian territories".
"We will continue armed resistance until the liberation of all the occupied territories," he said.

I feel a deep sense of sadness, even unto tears, for the people of Israel tonight.
The settlers, actually resettlers, should salt the earth and ship any livestock out of Gaza. After this shameful evacuation, any viokence across the border with Gaza from the palesites should be met by "a rain of ruin". the anniversary of 9/11 is coming up and I still remember the palesites and other jihadist scum dancing in the Arab gutter. Doom be upon them!

as all this is going down, Al-Jazeera is showing footage of the pullout, juxtaposed with the "martyrs" who made this "blessed day" possible.
They have the little muslim kids dressed like suicide bombers shouting "Today Gaza, Tomorrow Jerusalem".

The question was:
So. Israel gave up land. And the bombings have already begun, in spite of what we were "promised". What is the next step that she (Israel) should take to protect herself?
First of all, you have to admit two things:
1. The Palestinians will always hate Israel.
2. The Palestinians will always try to attack Israel.
That is a given.
No matter how much Israel kisses Palestinian butt, that will be so.
Now, on to the next question.
Why should Israel "give up" land.
Well, what land are we taking about?
If Israel were offered one million square miles of land populated with 50 million Islamic fanatics who wanted to kill Israelis, would Israel exclaim, "Wow!What a great deal!" ?
Of course not.
So, why would Israel want to hang on to land or live on land overwhelmingly populated by fanatics who want to kill Israelis?
That's just begging for a Darwin Award.
When there is a dangerous animal around your neighborhood, you must either kill it or lock it up.
You can't allow it to live with you.
In this day and age, killing the Palestinian animal is not really feasible. Let's face it, the World is not going to tolerate a "Final Solution" to the Palestinian problem.
That leaves option Number Two.
Lock the animal up.
When you lock the animal up, you don't live in its cage. You might live right next to its cage but certainly not "in" the cage.
The Israeli Wall will be the Palestrina's cage in Gaza.
To the West, the Palestinians will be caged in by the Israeli Navy. To the North and East, they will be caged by the Israeli Wall.
The only door to the cage will be the southern border with Egypt that Israel can slam shut at any time with an armored thrust.
The Palestinian animal will be caged and 90% surrounded by the Israeli Army and Navy and, overhead, the skies will be the prowling ground of the Israeli Air Force.
With the Israeli Wall, overland attacks from Gaza will be physically impossible.
Without the safety of Jewish settlers to worry about, any rocket attack from Gaza can be retaliated against with overwhelming air strikes by the Israeli Air Force.
The Palestinian Authority will have to choose between battling Hammas or seeing Gaza reduced to a pile of rubble by the Israeli Air Force.

this is absolutely disgusting, the Arab media are running this as a full victory for the "martyrs", suicide bombers, etc....
The way they have the kids marching with glee in bomber vests is probably the most disgusting ... and yes, they have posters of the "martyrs" and pre-printed shirts and posters saying , "Today Gaza! Tomorrow Jerusalem!"
