Anti-terror proposals rejected

The government has rejected a demand from the nation’s third largest party to step-up terror preparedness

Closed borders, national ID cards, and increased video surveillance are some of the measures government ally Danish People’s Party say are necessary to prevent Denmark from experiencing terror attacks similar to those in London.

The party, the nation’s third largest, stated their demands for increased anti-terror measures at a recent meeting with the government.

The government, however, rejected the need to take further steps to prevent terror.

‘I won’t rule out that there could be some good new proposals, but the government has already followed all the recommendations of terror experts and the UN. So we’ve taken the necessary steps,’ said Helge Adam Møller, legal affairs spokesman for coalition partner the Conservatives.

In addition to re-establishing border controls, implementing a national ID card, and increasing video surveillance, the People’s Party also proposed a plan to strip terror supporters of their Danish citizenship.

Right after the London bombings, I read an article here (FR) that four European countries had been singled out for attack (because of troops in Iraq and because they're open societies and good targets where they can attack)... they were Spain (attack in Madrid), Britain (attack in London), Italy and Denmark.

Aside from the reservations I'm sure they're having about the national ID card, they certainly should be watching their backs.
