gondramB, Wrap that tin foil a little tighter.

I can not imagine any scenario in which NARAL would subversively support Roberts. This ad (and the pulling of it) was a severe knee-jerk allergic reactions to Right thinking.

Of course, I was being sarcastic to the NARAL comms director, but please don't give them too much credit. You could hurt yourself, and it makes my brain hurt. (This man put his career on the line to make a point...You think he wasn't foaming at the mouth at the time, hoping it was going to actually do damage? Too clever by half if your hypothesis is even close to true.)

What pulling the ad and firing the comms director did prove is that, no matter what you may think on the abortion issue, lying, malificent, over-reaching, over-reacting demogoguery is stil transparent and its still punishable. Roberts is a great choice by any measure, and so they are reduced to this low level snarking...and this time someone got bit by their own dog. Too bad. "B-bye."

I think even calling it "my hypothesis" is giving it too much credence. I think it's most likely that NARAL's internal compass is so screwed up that they could see how offensive and transparent the ad. Rather that genuine conspiracy theory, my post was more like "wouldn't it be crazy if it was planned?"

I don't know if there are many West Wing viewers here since conservatives are portrayed so one dimensionally on that show but what I was actually thinking about was a West Wing episode where they want to blame deaths from a damn break on global warming.

A geologist in the administration is planning on making that claim with the understanding she will be sacrificing herself since the administration will slap her down in public. A senior aid (Will) says that won't get enough press and he volunteers to be the sacrifice instead. I know it's just TV but it got me thinking.

Anyway, I'm sorry I made your brain hurt. I'll try not to do that again.
