Germns sure want to crowd you. I have had a guy walk up with his girl behind me and push into me to read the Effing menu at a beer stand. I Effing hate it here! There is no personal space. You should share your table even if you don't like the type of person sitting down with you. BTW this is norther Germany. It may be a bit different in southern Germany where there are more Americans.
