China Arrests Mass Attendees

PINGTAN, China, JULY 29, 2005 (Zenit.org).- The Chinese government arrested a priest, a seminarian and nine parishioners who had been celebrating Mass in a private home in Pingtan, reported a U.S.-based watchdog group.

On Wednesday, officials interrupted Father Lin Daixian, 40, priest of the Diocese of Fuzhow -- in southeast province of Fujian -- and some 50 faithful, as they were praying for a parishioner suffering from cancer, reported the Connecticut-based Cardinal Kung Foundation on Thursday.

In arresting the priest of the underground Catholic Church, the police "savagely beat the parishioners who tried in vain to prevent Father Lin's arrest," reported the foundation.

According to the statement, "many parishioners were beaten and suffered severe injuries, including broken bones and teeth, brain injuries causing severe swelling, fainting, and many other" injuries.

The group added that the house where the arrests took place was ransacked and severely damaged.

Father Lin, and the seminarian and the nine parishioners, whose names are unknown, are now being kept in the Pingtan detention center.

This is the fourth time the Chinese government has arrested Father Lin.

The underground Church in China, which professes loyalty to Rome, does not have Beijing's approval.

That's all that matters. All that other stuff - God, country, you know - silly stuff.

I have it on good authority.

May God bless these martyrs. May they have a special place in heaven. May the Chinese that did this have a special place in hell.

How can a totalitarian government be so afraid of Christianity? Or the truth? Or the citizens?

Of course, the liberals here hate Christianity, shy away from the truth and prefer governence by the courts not by the citizens.

Hey...it's the same!

Oh, my. Prayers for our Catholic brothers and sisters in China. This sounds like a chapter from Memory and Identity by the late Pope John Paul II. He described meeting in secret for Mass in homes as a seminarian under the direction of a devout older Priest, risking beatings, imprisonment and death, as some who did met this fate. The only difference being that the Pope was in a Catholic country invaded by Nazis and Fr. Lin and group are a minority in a rabidly commie country.

Red China is a totalitarian state; we should cease treating the PRC as a normal trading partner. We are only making them wealthier, which makes them more arrogant as they gain the ability to exert economic influence.

The question almost answers itself -- Christianity contains measurements of GOOD AND EVIL and human behavior. The commies cannot stand anything that might in any way hold them accountable.

Like this country? Almost. Do I hear DNC, ACLU and the Democrat Party ???

The Chinese need to ask themselves a simple question: Why?

They haven't gotten around to confiscating our weapons, yet. That's why.

I'm extremely picky about buying American made goods. Obviously I can't always buy American made but I can buy from countries that are free like Japan, India, or Mexico.

Especially cheap Christian statues, trinkets, you name it. Check out a Christian bookstore and flip the items over sometime.
