Bush ties Iraq to fight on terror
US President George W. Bush has repeated his belief that the war in Iraq and the war on terror are one and the same and vowed not to pull US troops from Iraq until the country is stable.
In his weekly radio address, Bush noted that Iraqi leaders are finishing a constitution despite recent violence against US troops and Iraqis alike.
"Iraqis are taking control of their country, building a free nation that can govern itself, sustain itself, and defend itself," he said. And we're helping Iraqis succeed."
"We're hunting down the terrorists and training the security forces of a free Iraq so Iraqis can defend their own country. And when that mission of defeating the terrorists in Iraq is complete, our troops will come home to a proud and grateful nation," he said.
More than 30 US soldiers have been killed in Iraq in the last two weeks, bringing the total since the start of the war to 1,840.
"Our mission in Iraq is tough because the enemy understands the stakes. The terrorists know that a free Iraq in the heart of the Middle East will be a crippling blow to their hateful ideology," Bush said. "And that is why our work in Iraq is a vital part of the war on terror we're waging around the world.
"This war on terror arrived on our shores on September the 11th, 2001. Since that day, the terrorists have continued to kill -- in Madrid, Istanbul, Jakarta, Casablanca, Riyadh, Bali, Baghdad, London, and elsewhere. The enemy remains determined to do more harm," he said.
The president said insurgents kill "indiscriminately, but with a clear purpose."
"They want to force free nations to retreat so they can topple governments across the Middle East, establish Taliban-like regimes in their place, and turn the Middle East into a launching pad for attacks against free people," he said.
Bush vowed to continue to fight terrorists in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world, "so we do not have to face them here at home."
"When terrorists spend their days and nights struggling to avoid death or capture, they're less capable of arming and training and plotting new attacks on America," he said.
Duh?
The United States has an obligation to fight the terrorists where they are. The terrorists are in Iraq. Brave Americans, coalition partners, and Iraqis are fighting the terrorists there and we will win. The President is absolutely correct about this.
Bush lied! Bush lied!
I think all the terrorists in Iraq may be the give away.
In the MSM, these foreign terrorists get the sugar coated terms of "insurgents", "militants", or "fighters".
By the way, if you read the news scroll on MSNBC, you'll qualify for disability.
Lol....The media is just amazed that this man won't change his posistion no matter how hard they try to take him down.
Stellar Dendrite ties border to WOT.
Bush ties Iraq to fight on terror...for the 456,312,379,786,897th time
It's like these people either 1) don't believe Bush when he says it or 2) don't believe there are terrorists in Iraq.
[mattdono shakes head]
Terrorists flock to wherever they can kill westerners. Terrorists are like flys, and Iraq is the perfect fly paper. We had reason to go to Iraq, and since the terrorists are flocking there, we have better reason to stay.
Our guys n gals in Iraq are killing them as fast as they show up. Yes they take some hits. The left would rather Your kids take those hits at the mall.
Maybe this should have been posted in "Breaking News" ?
Couldn't have said it better myself.
"Terrorists are like flys"
"Our guys n gals in Iraq are killing them as fast as they show up."
Wouldn't it be more effective to go after the nests (Syria, Iran), then wait for them to show up in Iraq?
No. Why take on (and destroy) a whole nation when all you want to do is kill off those trying to kill you.
Sooner or later it will dawn on the terrorists that this has been our tactic all along. (In fact it is starting to be clear that they DO see this, and are trying to change their tactics in response. Hense the reductions in count of roadside bombings and suicide attacks in Iraq, and changing targets to London.)
There is every evidence that Syria and Iran are not even the largest contributors to the terrorists in Iraq, (although they are far from blameless). A large percentage still are Saudis and Jordanians.
We may need to close the doors a little bit by some well aimed strikes at the leadership of Syria and Iran, but "going after" as in invadeing is not a great idea.
I don't know about destroy, but you seem to think there's no connection between the terrorists and the countries (Syria, Iran, Saudis, whomever) that they're coming from. Who do you think is financing these terrorists? They're state sanctioned. If we don't go after the gov'ts of the countries that are sending (breeding) these terrorists (flies) we will Never exterminate them.
And as for "closing the door a little bit", that only slows down the flies and only temporarily. This is WAR and some well placed missiles are overdue in Syria and would send a message to everyone else.
P.S...."closing the door a little bit", is what's going on at our border with Mexico. It's not very effective.
As the leader of the most power nation in the world he has the patience and compassion to tolerate having to convey the truth to the IDIOTS one more time!
Shoeshien Boy predicted the 9/11 attack in some detail, even mentioning New York. Our troops found a document in the Iraqi intelligence HQ linking their Damascus bureau to one Osama bin Laden. But the lefties will keep insisting that there couldn't possibly be any connection.
Why don't we have the guts to WIN this war? We know the terrorists are bunched in Fallujah. Why don't we bomb the place?
