Strange, is it not? They suffer gloriously from the same conceit that Victorian explorers did, the feeling that they were above the beasts.

This seems to be an emotional reaction. "I am not an animal!" usually given as part of what might pass for a primal scream.

What the heck is wrong with being an animal? It's much better than being a machine, or a rock.
