BAGHDAD, Iraq - U.S. forces raided an insurgent facility that may have been producing an unspecified type of chemicals, the U.S. military said Saturday. It was unclear what was being produced or whether the materials were intended for weapons, the statement added.

U.S. troops, acting on a tip from detainees under interrogation, raided a "suspected insurgent chemical production facility" in northern Iraq last Tuesday, the statement said, without specifying the location.

However, the military cautioned that ongoing testing at the facility was "insufficient to determine what the insurgents had been producing."

What do you suppose it was being used for in Iraq?

"There is a Dewalt chop saw, a couple Jerry cans, and a vertical cylinder that looks like one of my sand blaster hoppers---if you wanna see sophisticated you need to peek at my back room. There's nothing in Iraq that rates sophisticated unless our guys "brung it.""

LOL!

I thought it was an WMD lab.

Another false alert on WMD. There never were any WMD, and there never will be any found because there never were any.

We found nuclear centrifuge parts and plans hidden in an Iraqi's garden when he tipped us off that they were hidden there.

http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/06/25/sprj.irq.centrifuge/index.html

That's all the WMD evidence we ever needed to find IMHO.

Saddam would have begun reconsituting the program as soon as the spotlight was off of him. We did the right thing.

Not at all sure. But they can be used to separate anything with a disparity in weight. Milk and cream, oil and water, organic matter from liquid where a strainer is inefficient.

In any case there should be residues of whatever was put through them at the site.

Of course the usual Bureaucratic mindset of, "let's not let anyone know, till we want to," seems to be in place, and even then we will only receive part of the story, if and when.

"I may be somewhat dense, but why did Salman Pak need a "seed fermenter"?"

Dual use item - a fermenter can be used to grow bacteria....

Don't hold your breath waiting for the press to cover it.

Then there was FR and we all can breathe with contentment again. : )

Anhydrous Glycerine can be made into nitroglycerine and thus other explosives, but the other chemicals you listed wouldn't be used.

"We know the desert dirtbags have all the aspirin they need. T"

You can actually make a type of plastic explosive from aspirin that is more powerful than TNT...

I tend to agree with you. I have a shop probably similar to yours which includes welding equipment, reloading equipment, etc. I think I even still have a 5 lbs bag of pure Asbestos laying around somewhere. (Use to use it for an epoxy filler before it became evil).

That looks like some poor saps repair shop from the pictures.

All the equipment in the pics I've seen also exists in my own shop----while some folks think that's ominous it's all a matter of getting regular stuff manufactured. The Dewalt chop saw w/abrasive blade can cut almost anything including fingers. I can make dammnear anything so you can let your mind wander as to what ahab might be up to. But wouldn't it be a hoot to find out the captured squeeler was actually fingering some poor schmuck with an air conditioning shop that he had a grudge with----it's been happening from day one in Iraq and the real problem is that the folks taking the pics just don't know what they're looking at. Makes you wonder how many pics of important stuff they've walked by?

So let me see if I get this straight. After your consecutive rambling rants, you really expect us to believe YOU know what you're talking about, but the DoD chem/bio experts don't?

I think I've done quite well to type this with a straight face.

"BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) Coalition forces have found more than 1,500 gallons of various chemicals in what officials believe is an insurgent chemical production facility and storage sites"

Hard to believe this could be going on in Iraq right under our noses, especially since we have been there for around a year and a half.. But I don't trust this story, this may be a spin story from CNN to try and make us look inept. "Various chemicals" could mean anything.

that's another story that totally disappeared - the material taken from Al Tuwaitha to Oak Ridge, it was supposed to be cross matched to the material from Libya. that story disappeared.

Another NY Times front page story "in the making"!

Or is that "masking"/bury,etc?

Why? They're constantly manufacturing car bombs and smuggling in weapons, but hiding/making a small amount of chemicals surprises you?

But you said it's not a lab and that there is nothing sophisticated in Iraq, unless the Americans "brung" it.

Are you changing you mind now? is it or is it not a WMD lab, It looks to me it is a WMD lab and, therefore, possibly used to produce them things.

Ok. Ok. Everyone calm down. We have heard in the last few weeks that Zarqawis "Middle Managers" have been complaining about how he was running things. I think they are falling apart and the few left locally are stressed with the amount of terrorist activities they are expected to do and are having trouble keeping up 24/7.

The only logical explanation based upon my brilliant analysis is that ....

THIS IS A METH LAB!!!! ha. ha.
