Good analysis of nuclear energy provisions of the bill.

Massachusetts has an entire congressional delegation that will throw every possible obstruction, delay, and cost increase at any effort to build any nuclear plant anywhere in the US.
The only nuclear things they are in support of are in bunkers in Iran, awaiting the imminent development of long range delivery systems.

Nordion is the only supplier of Mb-99 to US medical facilities.
The breakdown product is Tc-99 which is ubiquitously used in nuclear medicine
The loss of the primary source of the radionuclide would be VERY BAD in medicine
Medical and academic institutions use molybdenum/technetium generators as a source of Tc-99m for diagnostic tests or research. In this case, the nuclear reactor provides the molybdenum for the technetium generator. Molybdenum-99 has a short (66 hour) half-life, and decays to the even shorter-lived Tc-99m.
its short-lived parent, Tc-99m, however, is the most widely used radioactive isotope for medical diagnostic studies. Technetium-99m is used for medical and research purposes, including evaluating the medical condition of the heart, kidneys, lungs, liver, spleen, and bone, among others, and also for blood flow studies.

There is one thing that was slipped in a few years ago. It pertains to the obstructionist tactics of the anti-nukers: essentially once the permit is granted to start construction, the comment period is over...

** A BETTER IDEA TO HANDLE THE NUCLEAR OBSTRUCTIONISTS **
When we need extra/more power, SHUT THE POWER OFF AT THEIR HOMES. Then let's see how long it takes for an attitude adjustment...

it gives the secretary of energy broadly defined authority to approve loan guarantees for up to 80% of the cost of innovative technologiesI especially like this provision and hope it will result in increased effort in the development of hydrogen energy.

However the energy bill contains a lot of BS like extending daylight time and more subsidies for the ethanol lobby.
