Police arrest murder suspect who had been kidnapped in NL

-A Laredo man, one of 43 hostages rescued from two safe houses in Nuevo Laredo in June, was arrested Thursday after authorities found he was wanted here for murder.

According to police, the suspect used a false name while in captivity.

Mexican federal authorities found the hostage was a U.S. citizen after he was questioned in Mexico City.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation helped bring the man back, and he was extradited to Laredo on Tuesday.

Police say the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Jorge Francisco Gamez, is one of four charged in connection to the December 2004 shooting death of Juan Francisco Chavez.

Of the four suspects identified, only two have been arrested; one other is believed dead.

Chavez, a 24-year-old Laredo resident, was found dead at the 2500 block of Burnside and Anna streets on Dec. 2, 2004.

According to reports, Chavez, of the 1900 block of Zaragoza Street, was discovered partly hidden in the brush just after 10 p.m. that night with several gunshot wounds to his head from a .40 caliber weapon.

He was covered with ants and his hands were bound with black duct tape.

Chavez did not have any identification on him at the time, but a small piece of paper in his pocket with a name scribbled on it and other small items of evidence gave small clues to the victim's identity, officials said.

Laredo Police Crimes Against Persons detectives who investigated the scene Dec. 2 believed the victim had been shot somewhere else and then was dumped on Burnside Street.

Chavez' vehicle was later found burned at the 2900 block of Salinas Street.

Authorities obtained arrest warrants for four suspects charged with first degree murder and engaging in organized criminal activity, a felony 1.

The suspects include Gamez, 19-year-old Jesus Gonzalez III, 21-year-old Alberto Briseño and 20-year-old Horacio Diaz-Garcia.

To date only Gamez and Gonzalez III have been arrested.

Gonzalez III was approached at his home and questioned by investigators in late June. Police said he confessed to the killing.

Horacio Diaz-Garcia, 20, who is one of two suspects still at large, is believed dead.

According to Mexican news reports, a Horacio Diaz-Garcia who matches the suspect's description was found dead in Nuevo Laredo on Aug. 3.

He was found blindfolded, with his hands bound together and shot execution style, reports state.

Authorities are currently awaiting DNA results to confirm the suspect's identity.

Anyone with information on Briseño's whereabouts is urged to contact the Laredo Police Department at (956) 795-2800.

Falujah, Iraq sounds safer. Good riddance to these scum. Maybe the gangs of Nuevo Laredo (Mexico) could keep up the war on each other long enough to reduce the population consideably so they don't cross the border and start killing innocent Americans.
