NEW YORK (August 12, 2005) -- Service members and their families joined a Harlem rap group to film a video honoring the armed forces recently.
Music producer Terry E. Lewis and female rap duo Angels with Broken Wings coordinated with the United Service Organization (USO) of Metropolitan New York to get service members for the video shoot for their new singles Soldier Boy and Dreams.
With the current state of war and the dangers involving service members and their loved ones, Lewis said he and the Angels wanted to give something back to the members of the Armed Forces.
Soldier Boy is to boost the morale of the troops. It speaks of troops on their way to a mission, and how our hearts are with them and waiting patiently for them to come home. Dreams speaks of soldiers deployed, and their dreams of going home, said Lewis. We just want to give something back to those out there risking their lives not only for those abroad, but also for us here. A feeling like that never, ever dies. We use our music as a way of expressing how we feel, and we thank God that we have this medium to express it on a national and international level.
Lewis said a portion of the royalties earned from the singles will be donated to the USO. Both of the singles are due to drop this Fall, and the videos will be released to all music television networks.
Hazel Cathers, director of program services for the USO of Metropolitan New York, explained the importance of recognition for service members like that brought about by Lewis and Angels with Broken Wings.
Its not about the USO Its about the armed forces. And if there is anybody that supports the armed forces, that is a great thing. Im really happy that there are so many people that want to support our military. I think its wonderful, said Cathers.
Lewis said he and the rap group hope to coordinate with the USO to launch a music tour for military bases in the near future.

Whatever ping list you've got there... Can I get on it? That's my Canteen crowd.
Awesome!

Recently went to a Toby Keith concert and he said that it's been really difficult finding entertainers to go out to Iraq and Afghanistan. For the men and women in the forward areas, the military can only take TWO entertainers at a time due to security reasons (i.e., lack of resources for security detail).
