While I see there is a possible disruptor on this thread, some of the comments by Republican faithful on this thread (Deliverance), it is clear that conservatism is dead, gone, and buried from the Republican Party. I believe Reagan took a shot at infusing it into the party (with the help of men like Helms in the late 70s/early 80s), but it's clear the country club arm is back in full control.
On race relations he manfully comes out and makes the case for states' rights and the integration that he seems to think could have been worked out in the last quarter of the 20th century without heavy-handed federal involvement
While many 'conservatives' may rail against this stance, it is and was the correct Constitutional stance.
